Over the last few months, dd2 has been getting really smelly armpits to the point where I can smell her as soon as she comes in room. We've tried some of the mild de-odorants (sp?) but they make her itchy and she has to stop using them. Other than make her have showers and change clothes regularly I don't know what to do. She hasn't started her periods yet or anything, btw.

I just don't want it to be one of those things that sparks nasty comments from other kids iukwim...

Help!

What about deo wipes? She could keep them in her bag and maybe have a quick wipe every time she goes to the loo or something?

ROSEgarden · 08/01/2008 20:21

cant help sorry but my mindee has same problem, but dont know how to help her, tried mentioning deo but she said she was allergic..then said she was joking?..she IS clean, clean clothes etc, just very over productic sweat glands and very bad smelling..

ScaryHairy · 08/01/2008 20:23

Is the deo you've tried unperfumed? If not, it might be the fragrance that is making her itch...

gigglewitch · 08/01/2008 20:24

a 'real' anti-perspirant - try 'Simple', perhaps an unperfumed one, so she can use a light talc or perfume if she chooses? From the young ladies I teach to dance, they all seem to do this at 10-11 yrs old, and actually seem to be enjoying getting their toiletries and the clever mums turn it into a 'pamper' thing. Am taking notes already... my DD is very small yet but it's all good info

Aitch · 08/01/2008 20:28

you can get these in Boots

i use it, it's a great product, there's no smell with it.

Chardonnay1966 · 08/01/2008 20:29

Have tried a lot of the unperfumed type ones and she seems to have the itching still. Will try Simple brand to see if they work, thanks Gigglewitch. The wipes might be a good idea too Maureen, but i assume she'd have the same itching prob? Plus I know she would just forget to put them in her bag, forget her bag, forget to use them... etc etc

Ooh, missed that post at first Aitch, sorry. We've tried similar crystal thingies, but they didn't really work for her....

really? which ones? are you sure she was using them properly? i say this cos i've used a few of them and i have previously had to use quite powerful deodorants but if i put plenty of the crystal stuff on it works fantastically well.
are you sure the smell isn't now trapped in her clothes?

gigglewitch · 08/01/2008 20:39

just to confess.... i'm allergig to all kinds of everything, esp perfumed stuff, and what i use most is the "stick" versions of Dove and Simple. Antiperspirant, not just deodorant (cos they dont work ). if i use spray ones i itch. and likewise if i use any perfumed stuff i itch. lovely (not. 'one' looks like a monkey scratching one's pits ).
dove & co have moisturiser so no itchies. Tried the nivea very small spray-thingy, ,ust a small pump spray. no allergy, I dont use it as i prefer the others but the general idea was good. Another one your dd may want to try. It can be had for free too, i filled in something on a website and got a freebie sample.
As you virtually have my armpits' life history i'll bog off

gigglewitch · 08/01/2008 20:40

allergig is a nice word isnt it - but i really meant allergic obviously

Chardonnay1966 · 08/01/2008 20:43

I'm allergig to lots of stuff too (!!), so she's obviously getting it from me. But I'm ok with Mum, believe it or not! Not dd though. Don't know what brand of crystal Aitch, dp got them... Will certainly try your suggestions thanks!

My ds1 (9) has been suffering since last summer. He uses the pitrock one too as I didn't want chemicals near one so young! It works great. You have to apply wet, so he swipes it under his arms after a shower. It's worked great for him ... and I've swapped to it too.
