chronic/recurrent uti

about two years ago I had a UTI that took 6 months and long term antibiotics to get it under control.

Last week I developed another uti, I am on day 4 of nitrofurantoin and have only had a marignal improvement. I am concerned when my 7 day course finishes I will be back where I was two years ago when I was have so much bladder pain and urgency. It was a dark time and I am so scared to go back there.

With this in mind I have been researching chronic uti specialists as NHS urology told me I had IC and to moderate my diet. I have come across the Harley Street Clinic founded by professor Malone-Lee which it looks like you can self refer to but I cannot find a website for them to do much research.

I have sent them an email for some info but wondered if anyone else has experience of using this clinic?

I have no experience of using that clinic but am having similar issues so would also be interested to hear of anyone's experience.

My sister suffers with this.

She's on a tablet she has to take everyday. Can't remember what it is called. They checked her bladder and everything with a camera and couldn't find the cause.

Do you have diabetes by any chance?

How old are you? Are you testing positive for something?

Many women I know who feel like they have a UTI actually have VA. Creams and pessaries that replenish the oestrogen sort it out.

Hiprex tablets have been almost miraculous for my recurrent UTIs. I was having to be on antibiotics for a UTI every few months and I havent had to in a couple of years now.

Spudina · 14/04/2022 15:19

What’s VA?
No experience of that clinic sorry.
In my 20s I was plagued by constant UTIs. I had my urethral dilatation which solved it for 10 years. Im just now struggling again and recently has another one done which hasn’t entirely solved my issues. I am starting to wonder if my current issues are peri menopause related. I hope you get sorted soon OP. It’s so debilitating isn’t it??

Same as Spudina . In my 20s I was plagued with recurrent UTIs and ended up with a kidney infection as they never got treated properly. Dilation and cystocopy sorted them out but now in my early 40s they are coming back. I wonder if it’s hormones/ peri menopause. I’m trying ovestin cream to see if that helps.
Sorry no experience of the clinic .

picklemewalnuts · 14/04/2022 15:39

Yes @Spudina . Vaginal Atrophy. I just hate saying/typing it in full. It's a grim name!

Basically the tissues lose collagen/elasticity and it all feels a bit irritated. Ovestin cream or vagifem are the usual treatments I think. Have a look online. It feels like a UTI starting.

Yes, I have heard lots about this clinic. Everyone seems to swear their lives changed after beginning treatment there.

There was a thread about it last week or the week before with many more responses. Maybe try googling it. X
