Just the above really. Everything feels too bright, kind of static, feel detached.

Yep I started having this in 2005 after a very stressful time.
Very little was known about Derealization back then and one consultant actually asked me did I take drugs...I didn't and never have.
After many tests it was decided I'd had an extreme adrenaline response.
I was offered beta blockers which I took for a while but eventually came off.
I had it on and off for years and can still get it now if I'm very stressed or worried about anything.
I think it's actually quite common and far better understood nowadays OP

Thanks for resonding! How long did it take for the feeling to go, when you first had it? And how long does it usually take for it to pass? I've had this for like 2 weeks now, a bit worried!

Yes. Usually when I've been overtired for weeks and very stressed about things. It gradually fades but only if I make sure I get decent sleep and food (and extra vitamins) and try to cut down some of the stress. Its your body's way of saying stop.

See Will Young talking about something similar at 30 minutes:

Yes I'm autistic and this happens when I'm burnt out

Thanks for the replies! Good to know I'm not going crazy. Hopefully after taking care of myself it'll be gone after a few weeks.

Can I ask if you are peri menopausal at all? I had several experiences like this in the run up to the menopause. They were so strange and very disconcerting. X

I'm 30 so I hope not! I think it's probably just prolonged stress. Google suggests Depersonalisation-derealisation disorder, but I'm hoping it won't turn into a long-term thing!

There can be organic causes too, particularly epilepsy and migraines. It's possible to suffer from migraines and not get a headache (silent migraine).

Have you had recently started taking hormonal contraception or anything else that would affect your hormone levels? That can trigger migraines.

Whatever it is, it's worth a chat with your GP.

Hi OP

At the time it took a while to go. I had awful migraines too so they did a CT and MRI scan , both clear. I did find that once I wasn't worried that there was something more wrong, that I relaxed and infact an old school type doctor at the time said to me 'Pay it no heed, it will pass'. He was right.
I've never had it as bad as when it first happened, so now I can be aware of it, but without worrying iyswim.
Get checked out though because honestly once you have peace of mind it's amazing how much less it feels.
It's so long now since I first had it but I remember how worried I was.
Let us know how you get on.
