I'm a bit worried about my health

Hey everyone! I know this isn't a place for diagnosis but certainly for advice/reassurance I guess?
I have always used the toilet every hour since I had a baby and this was a few years ago now, I always put it down to pelvic floor but recently started going every 20 mins with labour like pains so I went to the doctors who did a urine test and said all looks normal but anti biotics anyway and a pelvic scan (due to how I flinched when she touched my pelvis) that really did hurt however the pain is now gone! I'm due for the scan soon..
I took a visit to Dr Google (I know never a good thing) and have scared myself that I have diabetes now as I didn't even realise frequent urination and frequently thirsty was symptoms! I've had these two for a long time now! I had a blood test back in August for dizziness but I don't think diabetes was on it, it was a full blood count.
I'm worried and overthinking that potentially I have diabetes and it has not been picked up...I haven't lost weight (put it on if anything)

Anyone? :/

If your symptoms haven’t resolved and the scan shows nothing else to cause the frequent urination then ask the gp if it could be diabetes.

TabbyMcTatBuskersCat · 11/04/2022 08:20

If it was undiagnosed diabetes you would be dead By now. Symptoms for diabetes don't last months and months, you would have slipped into a diabetic coma by now.

Going every 20 mins isn't normal. Insist on an appointment and tests this week.

Don't panic. Even if it is diabetes it's perfectly treatable. But you must get an appointment.

If the pain is bad, then go to A and E.

Good luck OP

Jane1727 · 11/04/2022 08:22

@TabbyMcTatBuskersCat that is simply not true. My husband had recently been diagnosed and now we know symptoms has had them for years. The GP thinks it has been ongoing for a long time undetected.

I didn't think so! I mentioned it about 6 months after I had a baby and they told me completely normal so I was always thinking t was normal! I'm pretty worried now that all this time I've been diabetic :/

I don't have pain now, but going to the toilet every 20 mins still, its a nightmare!

I was referred for an internal pelvic scan which I have on Friday, I'm not getting any pain now but they thought it could be a reproductive issue, do they test for diabetes on a full blood count? If so, I probably don't have it but I just don't ever recall being asked these probing questions when I have two of the main symptoms 🥲

If the doctor dipped your urine it would have shown sugar in it.

GlasswareisOverated · 11/04/2022 08:49

You need to ask if they did a HBA1C and if they did, what level was it showing.
If they didn't then it needs to be done.

They dipped my urine twice one showed infection and one didn't both completely healthy otherwise. I haven't had a full blood test since august so I wouldn't know :/

The gp can do a fingerprick test that takes just a minute.

If no gp available try a chemist or someone who has diabetes.

fossilsmorefossils · 11/04/2022 09:24

Two things about diabetes:

1.The fact that you haven't lost weight is a good thing here. You would expect someone to lose weight with unditected diabetes.

  1. If it is diabetes, it's ok. You'll be ok. The current medication options (pumps and sensors) give a much healthier life than it used to be.

Would a finger prick test show for definite if I'm diabetic? Thank you! That's one thing that's giving me some reassurance right now, my weight is very stable and I most definitely have not lost weight

Finger prick tests can give an indication but the gold standard diagnostic test is the HBA1C and if it's just a bit on the high side would need re-done in three months to be conclusive.

Do they order this test on its own or is it part of a full blood count?

Full blood count tends to be iron levels and that kind of thing. They may have ordered a full work up but you'd need to ask them what exactly they did and did not order.

Thanks, I've been timing how often I've been going this morning and since 6am I've been every hour on the dot :/
