Normal movements causing dizziness. Help!

Noticed this for about 2 weeks. It's not full vertigo as things aren't spinning as such (although I have had this previously), but it's more like, ordinary movements such as changing direction when walking or going from one room to another causes dizziness, as if I'm still "catching up" when changing direction. Also sometimes feel like I'm swaying/in a boat when lying down in bed. Going to the GP tomorrow and will request bloods, etc, but any ideas what it could be? It's really horrible. Google suggests labyrinthitis, but I'm not really nauseous and it wasn't a sudden onset, just something I've noticed.

Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo?

whatnumber · 10/04/2022 22:34

Could be low blood pressure?

ifyouturnonthelight · 10/04/2022 22:35

Same!! For about 2 weeks here too! Also I'm now horrendously nauseous

SheSaysShush · 10/04/2022 22:35

BPPV as mentioned above.

There's a manoeuvre called Epley which helps it. The Dr can show you bad then it's easily done at home by yourself.

I get this a lot, particularly in the last 18 months or so. Ive put mine down to perimenopause but have been given medication for labyrithitis but I havent been 'seen' by a doctor, didnt even speak to the doctor, told the receptionist i was getting vertigo symptoms and the prescription was sent to the chemist

This is the problem these days, no one has even seen me and Im taking these meds but I dont know what it is.

PlasticPlantsDontDie · 10/04/2022 22:37

I had labyrinthitis but wasn’t nauseous and it came on slowly. It was post viral, so have you had any other illness lately?

FawnFrenchieMum · 10/04/2022 22:37

Sounds like typical labryinthitus to me. I’ve had it a few times. They gave me anti-nausea tablets which eased it.

You haven’t received stopped any medication have you? If I miss a few days on one of mine, it makes me feel like this. Withdrawal symptoms I guess.

Psm92 · 10/04/2022 22:37

I've had BPPV before, which is very intense, spinning vertigo only from certain head positions. This is more of a general awareness that my brain seems to be taking longer to "catch up" when doing normal movements and moving around etc. Will ask the GP though.

It was awful until they finally kicked in. The day the world finally stopped spinning (!) was such a relief

I had full on vertigo, not sure if it was put down to this BPPv or not,, cant remember, but it was in 2006, spinning, fell over several times, sick all over the shop, parents had to come and get me to the doctors and i couldnt even walk into the doctors surgery on my own

This that I am suffering now is very different, I am a touch queasy with it but not overly nasesous, but Im giddy, whooshy, woozy, unsteady, not quite with it, lightheaded. Its difficult to explain

DotBall · 11/04/2022 19:39

I had something similar last year and it was actually low ferritin (caused by my Crohns). I get a bit ‘swimmy’ when my blood pressure is on the higher side too.

StateOfTheUterus · 11/04/2022 19:42

Look up PPPD - persistent postural perceptual dizziness - it’s different to BPPV

moonbedazzled · 11/04/2022 19:56

I have that. I suffer from vertigo. The first time I had it, I was throwing up every 10 minutes. But sometimes when I turn my head or roll over in bed, it feels like everything is going to start full on spinning like vertigo but it never fully develops into a spin and just stops. Probably lasts like a second. It occurs out of the blue and goes as fast as it comes.

I’ve come on this part of the forum right now desperately hoping that I could find any posts describing symptoms similar to what I’m having. I’m just desperate as this has now taken over my life and I’m just a mess.
In the past two years I’ve woken up on three occasions with full on vertigo. The first time the doctor for said it was labyrinthitis, the second it was vestibular neuritis and the third it was vestibular migraine. The third episode was in October but it has never properly gone like it did before. I contacted my doctor again who then said it was BPPV and sent me a link with exercises to do. I did them about three times and it brought on the worst episode of vertigo that I’ve had yet. I couldn’t even lift my head up.
That was in February. As before it got better but never fully went. In the last week it’s become worse. Every time I lay down and put my head in a certain position it starts. The weird thing is when I open my eyes it stops. Sleeping has become virtually impossible as every time I go to turn over the vertigo starts and wakes me. In the end I just give up. During the day I am so aware that I’m slightly dizzy. Not enough to stop me from what I’m doing but it’s there. Sometimes if I’m daydreaming or get really tired vertigo can kick in for a split second then it stops.
It is worrying me to death. I am completely convinced I must have a brain tumour or something. There’s no possible way I can go for a scan as I have horrific panic attacks. It’s now ruining my life and is making me so depressed. It’s literally on my mind every minute of every day and I have no idea what to do. I just can’t carry on like this, not just with the dizziness but with the amount of worry that’s it’s causing. I’m completely exhausted and at my wits end. I have medications that are meant to help but they don’t and also increase tiredness. I can’t cope with this

Dizziness always needs proper investigation. I was wrongly dx with BBPV, many years ago.

I had many episodes of dizziness, then a few years later I developed numbness, pins and needles etc, saw GP immediately referred to Neurologist, had MRI head, cervical & whole spine, white matter lesions found on my brain and two areas of inflammation in my spinal cord dx with Transverse Myelitis, initially, but told at the same time Neurologist thought I had MS, but would have to wait for a further inflammatory attack to confirm, that happened two years later. Dx with Relapsing Remitting MS, now 10 years later, Secondary Progressive.

I would urge anyone to suggest referral to Neurologist to their GP. Worth having a consultation and MRI to check, to many patients with these type of symptoms are put down to ear disorders, many are nothing serious of course. But if you have MS as soon as you can get onto treatment the better. My life has changed a lot since having MS, but you can still have a good life. Good luck.

teaandtoest · 13/04/2022 08:11

Look up vestibular migraine. All of the above are good suggestions. When you look up the right one you’ll know. You may need a specialist if it continues as most GPs will say labyrinthitis or if that doesn’t stick, anxiety!

liveforsummer · 13/04/2022 09:32

I've had this since I had covid in January so put it done to a longer term symptom of that

thestraitofillinois · 13/04/2022 09:47

Try the Canalith Repositioning Procedure for starters.

Starrr123 · 18/01/2023 22:32

@liveforsummer how is your dizzyness now ? X
