Suspicious mole...best place to get it checked out?

Got this suspicious looking mole/lesion on my scalp. Only noticed it for last couple of weeks but think it's got bigger

It's been flaking and bleeding and is a bit itchy and sore

Debating whether to get it seen by GP, or a private mole clinic. Happy to pay for it to be looked at privately if it means I can get more info/be seen quicker

Anyone got any experience of this?

It's hard to see from the photo, but get it checked out. If you can get a Drs appointment for early next week and they think it could be cancerous you should be referred within 2 weeks. If you have the money and can get in privately quicker than that then go private.

Our gp always refers onto dermatology...if its dodgy looking the the referral would be urgent ( 2 week cancers targets).... I went with one mole and dermatology ended up removing 3 as they didn't like the look of 2 others ,( all were benign on the end)

I'm not suggesting it is cancerous by the way, it could be eczema or any number of things but the only way you will know is to get it checked.

Thanks both

I do have psoriasis so hadn't thought much of it. Then asked DH to take a pic of it as it felt crusty and strange and he said it looks like a mole but with crusty scabs.

Hopefully it is absolutely nothing!

Going to see if the scabs heal and will make an appt if not

Check out seborrhoeic keratosis

CleverSausages · 09/04/2022 14:20

@tiktokcat Have looked at this but I'm not in the usual demographic (in my 20s). Although it isn't impossible!

I have always taken my dodgy miles to the GP and the referral is quick - once it made me panic just how quick it was but they explained that's how they like to do it!
All ok!

My GP surgery has always been excellent- I got referred under 2ww for some funny lymph nodes even though doc was fairly sure they were OK!

So I trust they'll be just as thorough with this

Will make an appointment on Monday Smile

I had a dodgy mole removed from my scalp last year, turned out to be fine , not cancerous but quite rare for a white person to have (as I am) whole thing from GP app to having it off was about 15 days!

Results took longer but the consultant was very reassuring.

Scalp surgery is not nice though so if they do take it off, make sure you take some time off work (I had a week) ☺️

CleverSausages · 09/04/2022 15:14

@Narhwhalelife What did it turn out to be if you don't mind sharing? And did it look anything like mine?!

Did you need a GA for the surgery? I assumed any sort of removal would be a very simple procedure

Very reassuring it was all dealt with so quickly and glad it turned out to be nothing nasty

@CleverSausages I had a dysplastic cellular blue Nevus 😬 mine was 8mm in diameter! It was horrid looking like a big black/blue bobble. So not like yours.

Nope it’s local anaesthetic, few injections in the site, stings a lot! Then they just set to work on it, then stitched it up, I had a few stitches as it was big and they wanted to get a wide bit round it. They had to shave a clump if the top of my head which wasn’t great either 🙈 but it’s grown back now.

I was pleased to get it off as it had a high chance of turning nasty x

CleverSausages · 09/04/2022 17:42

Oooh, that's definitely not whatever I have! So glad you managed to get it removed quickly
