You need to go to the doctor to get it checked. I know its hard but they have really seen it all before. How big is it? You could have some sort of low grade infection that flairs up. You really need to get checked it they keep coming back.

WigWamBam · 08/01/2008 14:28

Being a shy and private person mustn't stop you seeing the GP. It would be foolish to risk your health simply because you don't want to show the doctor. Two minutes of embarrassment and it's over - not worth risking your health for IMO.

As Mavis says, s/he will have seen it all before, and won't bat an eyelid.

Ring them now, before you get the chance to chicken out!

Could it just be a boil? Or an infected hair follicle? If you can afford it, pay to go and see a private GP, that way you will get the advice but it won't be on your NHS medical records.

When I get spots in that area I massage tea tree cream over my backside and thighs; tea tree is brilliant at getting rid of the bacteria that causes things like this! You can also add a few drops to bathwater which helps too.

Poor you

It could be ingrowing hairs - do you wax in these areas?

kittywise · 08/01/2008 14:50

Sounds like infected hair follicle caused by in growing hairs.

WildCats · 08/01/2008 15:15

nope dont wax. if its ingrowing hair why would it be full of that yucky stuff?

Because hair isn't supposed to be ingrowing so it causes infection which results in pus.

Long term (once you have seen the doc) try buying a tea tree body scrub and use on the area (not your vaginal area obv!) once or twice a week and then a cream with tea tree in it. That should help.

And you can dab neat tea tree oil on as well.

And the docs will have seen much much worse (see the thread about the lady on here who had to go to doc to have a tampon removed!!)

I'm glad you've made that appointment. It sounds horrible.

It actually sounds very simiar to a condition my sister suffers from - hidradentitis suppuritiva.

She gets the boils under her armpits, but from what I understand, it's possible to get them on your bottom, the inside of your thighs, and your bikini line as well. They can be hugely painful, come back time and time again, and they can leave scars.

It will only get worse if it's left alone, but can be fairly easily treated with antibiotics once the GP has made a diagnosis.

More information here. It may not be what you've got, but it's worth checking out. And even if it's "only" an infected boil, the GP can sort it out with antibiotics really easily.

That post has come out all scrambled up, but I'm sure you can work out what it's meant to say

WildCats · 08/01/2008 18:47
