Colonoscopy tomorrow

Just looking for a handhold. I've read all the past threads about it all (thank you Mumsnet!!) so feel armed with knowledge. Will have a sedative so not too worried about the actual procedure. More worried about surviving with no food until tomorrow afternoon! And shitting my insides out over the next few hours of course.
Just about to make up the moviprep and put it in the fridge for a couple hours. Its says to drink it over the period of an hour or so, a glass every fifteen twenty minutes. Could I just chug the lot in one go?
Bathrooms ready. Comms all charged up. Family on best behaviour.
Wish me luck.

I drank quickly, with a straw. That way it didn’t touch my tongue too much and didn’t taste too bad.

I was also told clearish boiled sweets (no red/purple) were okay and my report said bowel was well prepped so those orange& yellow foxes glacier fruits were fine & they kept me going.

Might I suggest some sudocrem as a barrier before the world starts falling out of your arse? Applying after each visit would help too.

My biggest peeve was that I was taken to a kind of locker room and told to wait there just before my op. I decided to have one last toilet trip but the only toilet was off another little shower room/changing room that had a couple of seats in it & there was a nurse & patient in there going through paperwork so I couldn’t go! Still annoys me. Fancy blocking the only female loo in a colonoscopy area!

Anyhow, afair I chugged in in two goes over an hour. Worked fine.

Good luck! Hope all turns out okay.

Thank you, yes I have boiled sweets (v.helpful) and I have sudocream and moist toilet tissues ready.
I'll try and remember to have a wee before I go in.

I work in a department that works closely to with the colonoscopy department. Stick to the instructions and done chug it. I am assuming that you requested to have it under GA you’ll be fine. Remember not to eat before appointment and have someone on standby to pick you up as they won’t allow you to go home by taxi.

Just for others who may search, as I did, before a colonoscopy. It was a long day before and during. The fasting wasnt as bad as I thought and the moviprep wasnt quite as horrid as I anticipated and I managed to drink it down fairly easily, although by the time of the second litre it was a bit of a drag. I had a glass of clear lemonade to swig on in between glasses. And boiled sweets were an absolute life saver during the fasting.
The laxative...yes book the toilet/bathroom for a good six hours or so. Once it starts its pretty full on.
On the day I had to wait for two hours in a tiny waiting room with nothing but TikTok (thank God for Tik Tok) and a couple of magazines. They were running late. The procedure itself was not too bad but I didnt feel much benefit of the sedative. I didnt feel woozy but perhaps I just didnt realise/notice.
I watched it all on the monitor, quite a surreal experience. It was quite painful at one point and they changed down the size of the camera to a pediatric size and gave me more painkillers and it was OK. Not the nicest experience but totally doable.
I thought I would feel nervous and embarrassed as the camera went in but I didn't, they just go straight in with no ceremony or apology and it's kind of no biggie. Maybe that was the sedative!
When it's over the trapped wind is quite uncomfortable but a good fart sorts that out. I am glad I was back home when the big fart came becuase I did a massive 'shart' Blush They didnt warn me that would happen! It wasnt poo of course, it was the watery stuff the use, I suppose.
After all that I felt fine except for two days (and counting) of runny nose and sneezing and streaming eyes from where they put a O2 thing up my nostril. Feels like I have a streaming cold on one side of my face.
So, yeah. Everything was OK. I have diverticulitis which is v. common and not a big worry. They zapped a polyp.

@humblesims Thanks for this! Just drinking my Moviprep now😬

humblesims · 22/04/2022 22:49

Good luck with it @friesB4guys I expect you're on the loo by now! Hope it goes alright tomorrow. It's all very manageable. But do have a sedative if you can. And look forward to something nice to eat afterwards. 😎

@friesB4guys Hope it all goes smoothly.

I have issues of trust and the thought if GA or sedation was worse than the worry of the colonoscopy. I was lucky that the prep was nowhere near as dramatic as some of the experiences documented on the internet, in fact I wondered if it had worked properly (it had).
I refused sedation and GA, the painkiller offered was pethidine, which I didn't want. I accepted a cannula, so they could give me pain relief if I needed it, but I didn't, I was also offered gas and air.
It was fine, I watched it on the screen, it was a bit awkward as I had to manoeuvre myself as he eased the camera round, the odd bit was slightly uncomfortable, but nothing to worry about.

Not sure about the aforementioned something nice to eat...I had to eat before they'd let me leave, ended up with toast after their revolting egg sandwich wouldn't go down!

Hope it goes well, make sure you have the correct day heard of a chap who turned up at the hospital to be told he was a week early.
