Terrified I will need bunion surgery later?

I have a bunion on one foot, there is a small bony structure there. however I wear normal shoes and a device at night that keeps the toe straight at night time. sometimes it hurts, if I don't wear the device regulalrly. then I start wearing the device again.

I'm worried my bunion will get worse and then I would need surgery when I get older, around 40 ish now in age. has anyone fixed their bunion without surgery or does wearing the device stop it from getting worse? mine looks quite similar just like the image attached. thank you

also I'm slightly overweight by 4kg, but in the process of losing weight which seems to be working. I thought the extra load might make the bunion worse, is that true?

I also have a bad bunion. I hadn't even considered surgery. My issue is finding shoes that don't hurt.

Have you seen a podiatrist about the bunion? I'd really recommend getting a professional opinion and advice on how to contend with it.
I've had bunions since a very young age, had surgery in my teens to fix and then again in my 20s. The last op seems to have done the job although I can no longer play competitive sports.
Depending on the surgery you have recovery time can be tricky. My last op I had both feet operated on at the same time so I was really out of action... But it was worth it.

My bunion is worse than yours. I'm 40. It began to develop in my late twenties and recently got a bit bigger. It used to hurt badly at random times. Now I tend to wear comfy shoes but the bunion always puts its own hole in all my shoes so you can see it through shoes! I don't want surgery and haven't felt I needed it. No men have really cared. It is unsightly though. I used to care for a woman of around 90 who had the hugest bunion, was like an extra foot growing! I assume she never had surgery for it either.

thank you. I haven't been to podiatrist for this, however previously I did see a podiatrist due to flat feet (lower arches) and she made insoles for me to wear. they were ind of annoying to stick into shoes, perhaps made the shoes tighter. I had the ones which are not full length but about 75% in length of the shoe. I wore them for a few years. Do you think the insoles could have caused the bunion due to shoes being a bit more tighter? Or should I go back to wearing insoles, is the lack of insoles causing the bunion?
