Hi all not sure if anyone can help me here but I went and got my bloods done as I’ve been having issues with my bowels each time I have bowel movement I have bloody mucus sorry tmi!
And basically my liver count has come back abnormal and the doctor wants to talk to me which he’s going to call me in the morning !
Has anyone had liver count this high ? I’m absolutely petrified I’ve just had a baby 13 weeks ago via c section and scared incase there is something wrong with me 😢
2 years ago my bilirubin was high and doctor said I needed to repeat it but I got pregnant so he said to leave it for now but it is very high and I don’t drink I haven’t drank in over 3 years I have just recovered from covid 3 days ago but surely that wouldn’t make my liver count high
Also on the top of my blood form it’s says
eGFR calculation is not valid in pregnancy but I’m not pregnant we’ll I’m not due my period for another 5 days but obviously my periods won’t be that regular as just had a baby not long ago but confused to why they would state that on the blood form when I haven’t mentioned anything about pregnancy
X

Which liver test is high? What is the level & do they give the reference ranges on the results? Is the bilirubin still high as well?

Lo12345 · 07/04/2022 20:01

The ALT is raised, it would usually be a cause for concern if it was 3x the upper limit of normal or it was persistently mildly raised over a few months. They will probably want to investigate as you have bowel symptoms. They will want to talk to you about anything you might have done/taken to affect the levels.

Tillow4ever · 07/04/2022 20:26

That line about eGFR is the standard line printed alongside that blood test. You result is greater than 90, so your kidney function looks good! Take this from someone with very bad kidney function!

Hope you get some answers about the liver function tests.

@Cookerhood yeah I’m gonna speak to the gp tomorrow and I’ve not had no antibiotics just maybe 2 paracetamols last week when I had covid I don’t like taken medication if I can help it and like I say I’ve not drank in so long x thank you for replying back to me also confused why they’ve mentioned pregnancy on the form too so strange x

@Tillow4ever okay thank you I was worried thinking I’m not pregnant so why’s it saying that 🤦🏻‍♀️ X

No worries, thought you’d appreciate some reassurance on that! I can’t remember why that test shouldn’t be used in pregnancy, but it’s just the lab warning that if the patient is pregnant, you shouldn’t use that result when diagnosing anything.

PlayDohDots · 08/04/2022 09:40

The pregnancy line is just a default warning and eGFR is notoriously inaccurate for a lot of people because it's an index number calculated using a fixed body weight of 73kg or something. So if your body weight is under or over that then the numbers are likely to be skewed.

That ALT is only mildly raised. They'll probably just repeat the test in a few months or run a standard panel for liver issues. I had a much higher value during pregnancy and it went back down on its own within a month. Nobody knew what caused it, and my only hunch is that I was taking a lot of vitamin B12 supplements against morning sickness (but nothing over the recommended limit) which get metabolised in the liver. Liver values fluctuate a lot and can easily return to normal by themselves.

Lo12345 · 08/04/2022 13:56

@PlayDohDots yeah it was just the receptionist she scared me abit she said everything else has come back okay but your liver test is high and doctor wants to talk to you 🤦🏻‍♀️ So that’s when I went in to panic mode …
Spoke to the doctor this morning and he said it may be covid that has caused my levels to raise as I tested negative for covid on the Monday and had bloods done on the Wednesday but not sure if covid would make my liver levels high I have to repeat it in 4 weeks time too see if they have gone back down this time last year my bilirubin level was 30 and I was meant to repeat the test again but got pregnant with my daughter so he said to leave it and this is now I’ve just had them re done and it’s even higher 🤦🏻‍♀️
That’s good then as I’m definitely not pregnant so got worried about that as well lol x

What's the rage for FT4?

Lo12345 · 08/04/2022 22:36

@DeedIDo I can’t see any realists on the blood for FT4 ?

The increased bilirubin level is likely to be Gilbert’s syndrome which is harmless.
If ALT is mildly raised just repeating in 1 month or so would be a normal approach.

Lo12345 · 09/04/2022 09:52

@Moreguac yeah last year my bilirubin was at 30 now it’s at 33 and my ALT is 83!
Doctor said I need to repeat it again in 3 weeks time I did have covid so my doctor said the covid may have made my ALT higher it could of inflamed it a little bit that’s what he thinks but I’m not too sure I’ll have to hope next time I go they will be lower x
