Cataract surgery what lenses are best

I've been referred for cataract surgery. I also have astigmatism and myopia which has worsened considerably over the last 9 months. My left eye, for example, has gone from -7 to -9.75.

I'm told that during cataract surgery the replacement lenses are matched to your prescription. You can have both lenses for distance, or one for near and one for distance. Has anyone had this done and what lenses did you choose?

Also, if the myopia continues to worsen after the surgery, what happens? Do I get glasses or can the op be re done?

It is the cataracts that causes the myopia to worsen. Once they're removed it is unlikely for your prescription to shift that much again. It should stay relatively stable.

@applewhitenights Thank you, I did not know that. Do you know anything about the choice of lenses?

Astigmatism is hard to correct completely with cataract surgery. How much astigmatism do you have?

Mono vision where you correct one eye for distance and one for reading can work, but it's not guaranteed it works for everybody. I would try it using contact lenses first. If you don't get on with having one eye different to the other, correcting it with glasses becomes more tricky too.

Personally, I would have both eyes corrected as close as they can to Plano (no prescription in the distance). Then hopefully I could just get away with reading glasses. If not, then varifocals but a lot cheaper as you wouldn't be -7 any more and wouldn't have to pay for thinner lenses.
