DS has a temperature. Should he go to school?

Probably a bit late now as it is already 8.45am but DS1 has a temp of over 38c. He seems OK in himself apart from a cough and cold. Should I have sent him to school?

I never know when it is OK to let him stay home. He went yesterday and sounds like he annoyed everybody with his cough but he didn't have a temp. then.

He is 7 btw.

its difficult to know really, if he was happy to go and ok in himself then sure you did the right thing. Maybe you could ring up a bit later just to check on him, thats what i used to do with DD1 if i wasnt sure, nine times out of ten she would be fine

pigsinmud · 08/01/2008 10:48

I wouldn't have sent him with a cold & cough. If had a temp too I definately wouldn't have. Mine rarely have temps so would have seen as a sign of being rather poorly. However I'm a soft touch and I'm sure he'll be fine.

Have you phoned to check how he is? over 38c is quite high....I think I'd want to be in bed meself but then I'm a big girls blouse.

Agree with belgianbun. I would never send mine with a high temperature, as apart from his feeling poorly it os not fair on the other children!

Bigfathairyones · 08/01/2008 12:46

NO - absolutely not - sorry. I also never send them anywhere if they've had a temp in the previous day, no matter how fine they feel.

ineedapoo · 08/01/2008 13:00

No way not fair on him, teachers, other children. Different if he develops it at school but to send hime with it

Iota · 08/01/2008 13:02

I agree with belgianbun as well. sorry

I didn't word the OP very well at all.

I haven't sent him to school but he seems so well in him self that I was having doubts about whether I was wrapping him up in cotton wool for just for the sake of a cold. I was asking if I should have done so but saying that it was too late to send him really as it was already school starting time. I suppose if everybody had said he should have gone then I could have packed him off late although I must admit it wasn't very likely.

Of course if he had been forced to leave the house and trudge to school he might have felt worse and been moping all day. As is it he has been sat on the sofa reading and watching Scooby Doo with my mum all morning and having a thoroughly lovely and lazy day. (I had to go and organise our local toddler group with DS2 as the other mother who has keys is poorly too so couldn't do it which is why poor Nanna had to get involved).

Thank you all for your replies. Sorry for annoying you all and for no reason! again.

You did just the right thing Niecie! I thought you'd sent him to school. Hope he's feeling better.
