Anal fissure - Rectogesic

Hi, just wanted to hear from anybody who has experience and is willing to share.

Been prescribed rectogesic today, GP quite vague and unconcerned. How long did you use it before you saw an improvement? Did it even work for you? I'm not constipated so that shouldn't be a problem but any other tips welcome.

Thanks

It didnt work for me and gave me awful headaches. Try using teeny amounts to build up to. Also look on amazon for finger cots as it makes it…less awful to apply.

How are you getting on with it? I'm in the same boat, been using it two weeks.

Even though I have a good diet, rarely get constipated and exercise regularly, Ive had anal fissures and haemorrhoids on and off most of my adult life. Sometimes it’s been years between incidents, but I’ve noticed when I get run down they seem to occur.

The only thing that’s helped with healing has been Rectogesic and taking Warm baths after BMs.

However, I’ve now had an anal fissure for 3 months and it’s honestly ruining my life. About a month ago, I discovered I’m pregnant, which I’m so happy about but it’s hard to get excited when I’m in pain for 6+ hours per day. My doctor says I can’t take rectogesic because it’s not been deemed safe to use during pregnancy, but I’m getting to the point where I’m balancing up the risks and considering using it, even just a little each morning. Has anyone else used Rectogesic during pregnancy?

Also, in answer to the previous messages, it can take a few weeks or longer for Rectogesic to work. If it’s for an anal fissure, to speed up healing, make sure to avoid squatting exercises and weightlifting as this can make it flare up. (I discovered this the hard way!) Just stick to gentle exercise, eat lots of fibre, drink 8-10 glasses of water a day, and take a warm bath after BM, and You can also apply some oil/petroleum jelly to the anus before BMs. It should heal if you follow these steps, but you have to be patient. It takes time!
