She is 3.9.

For the last month the has been frequently complaining of tummy ache. I've ruled out hunger and constipation and I don't think it is for attention.

It is where her belly button is.

I'm thinking of taking her to the Drs but wondered if anyone knew what it might be.

Forgot to say the pain seems to come and go. It is mild to moderate (ie she isnt screaming with it). She has had slightly loose stools occasionally but I put that down to the things she's been eating.

Worth taking a urine sample along to the GP to rule out a urinary tract infection. Dd2 gets this and the only thing she ever complains about is a stomach ache.

Lubyloo · 08/01/2008 08:43

Has she been ill or maybe fighting off an infection? Children have glands in their stomach that become tender when they are ill with things completely unrelated to their stomach. Just as we might get a tender neck. As it has been going on a while though it would be worth getting it checked out

FunkyGlassSlipper · 08/01/2008 08:43

Ok, hadnt thought of that as she doesnt complain when going to loo.

Dr said he thought it was colic pain. She has to do a urine sample to rule out a uti though.

OK. So just called Drs for test results and receptionist says Dr wants to talk to me on the phone about them tomorrow.

What might this mean? I would have thought if it was a uti they'd have just suggested we come in for another appointment.

?

maybe hes gonna give u a prescription and didnt think it was worth taking up an appointment for

Twiglett · 15/01/2008 16:17

bet she's got a UTI .. if she has there will be standard scanning to go through as she's under 5 (they check liver and kidneys) .. it's protocol ... and she'll need anti-biotics

might be wrong .. but if all he was waiting for was a urine sample results then that's a good bet

HTH

loopylou6 · 15/01/2008 16:19

twiglett, i thought little ones had to have 2/3 infections before they did the scanning etc

Twiglett · 15/01/2008 16:19

Well DD had it with her first infection .. but she was just under 3

loopylou6 · 15/01/2008 16:21

ahh i see, its so difficult with little girls isnt it, my dd is 3 and she still wears nappys of a night, recently shes taken to pooing in her nappy as soon as ive put her in bed coz she knows that will then bring me back up the stairs anyway last night when she pooed it was all over her, front and back, iw as panicking coz that could so easily cause an infection couldnt it

FunkyGlassSlipper · 15/01/2008 16:26

I think you're probably right and it's a uti. Saving appointment time makes sense.

She's very upset. Still getting tummy pain and she's actually had 3 poo accidents this week (first time ever) so things arent good.

We went to the hospital for a follow up eye test today which shows she may have a squint. Why do these things always happen when DH is away?

aww big hugs to u FGS, is the surgery still open? can u not phone them and insist u find out now? please let us know how she gets on. xx

FunkyGlassSlipper · 15/01/2008 16:31

So, Twig does that mean they'll do more tests on her if it is a uti? She is only 3.9

OP posts:
Twiglett · 15/01/2008 16:36

I suppose it depends on the protocols in place within your health authority .. but at the most they'll probably just refer her for a scan

when are you talking to doc?

FunkyGlassSlipper · 15/01/2008 16:54

I have a phone appointment tomorrow morning (in the middle of pre-school meeting lol).

GP said they it is not a bacterial infection and that they have found white cells in her urine which needs further investigation. So we have to do another urine test and my mind is racing, and I am worried

Last sample was clear and today she hasnt complained so hopefully she's on the mend.
