Could a doctor's receptionist be able to tell me if a family member is registered if I have concerns about them?

Only if you have the other person's permission to discuss them.

So even if the family member is registered there I couldn't speak to a GP without their consent? Thanks

No without consent they cannot even tell you if they are a patient.

No, the staff will not be able to discuss them without their consent, or if you have poa and they lack capacity or you are there nearest relative if its mental health. You can write your concerns to the practice manager and they may pass this info on if its the right practice. Is the relatice able to tell you where they are registered and wants you to speak to their doctor.

I won't be able to get the relative's consent to speak to their GP or find out where they are registered. I have an idea where they might be registered.

You can send information to the practice asking it to go to the patient's GP if the relative is registered there. But the practice cannot tell you if the patient is registered there, or share any information with you.

what is it you are worried about, are you unable to get their consent because of an illness or because they don't want you to have it.

Flyingbymypants · 05/04/2022 20:50

If you have legitimate concerns about your relative , you could write a letter to the practice outlining them. Depending on what you say, someone from the practice might call them to check they were OK or ask them to book an appointment. However they will not be able to give you any information without your relatives consent.

If it is not a health issue but more their general wellbeing and you have a safeguarding concern, you could report through social services.

Having said above - if the relative is of sound mind and has decided not to seek help, there is nor much you can do to force them to engage.

I am worried about their well being so may have to go down the social services route.
