deoends where they are going

DS2 would run all afternoon across the common but find it very difficult to walk the 3/4 mile to school...

I think if you train them up early enough a 3 year old should be able to go pretty much as far as a 5 year old and a 5 as an 8

Lol at training them.

In school shoes - 300 metres

In Power Ranger trainers - 10 Thousand Hundred Twenty miles, superfast!!!!

just watched a fab prog about childhood obesity and i am reformed.

great idea from one school where the parents can drop the kids off a distance from the school and the teachers/guardians/volunter parents scort more than 75% of the kids to school altogether.

so tomorrow i do live over 2miles from my dds school so going to park a distance from it and start wlaking either at drop off or pick up.

just wondering if ds , younger, is up to it.

I'd say it depends on the child: how strong they are, how young they are and how well they have been trained. I remember my nephew walking well over 4 miles at the age of 3, but then he is a fit and strong little boy. I took my ds out for similar walks when he was 3, but brought the buggy for emergency backup.

Wow, 4 miles at the age of 3. That's great. DS is 17 months at the moment and he just loves walking. Frequently when we get back to the car he removes his hand from mine, says "Bye" and toddles off down the road (with me or DH in fast pursuit). It's great to know we should be able to do decent length walks with him before too long.
