My husband did when he had a sickness bug and burst one with repetitive vomiting. I think it went after about 2 weeks. Its gradually faded in that time

Hope mine goes soon! I have heard you can get them from coughing really hard, I was asleep when mine happened, so seems really strange

Yes, it's happened to me several times over the years. It looks awful but does go away after a week or so. Just like a bruise really, it'll fade to a yellow tone then go. Don't worry!

My husband burst a vessel in his eye through vomiting. It faded to yellow before disappearing completely after a couple of weeks

I woke up once with a completely red eye. Didn't hurt or anything and I don't remember rubbing it or anything like that. I went to the optician and they said it was fine.

It’s happened to me twice in the last year, both times while weight training. It’s possible it happened in your sleep but it may have actually happened prior to that because I’m not sure that the physical effect is instantaneous, if that makes sense (because I guess it takes a while for the blood to leak out into the eye). The first time it happened to me, it cleared quite quickly- perhaps within a few days. The second time, it took a fair bit longer, and it got worse before it got better. Initially there was just a bit of blood, then the blood spread until it was completely red on one side of my eye. It gradually turned yellow and then eventually cleared.

And yes: coughing, sneezing, vomiting, weight training, giving birth… anything that creates pressure in the eyes. (The first time it happened to me was when I gave birth to my son- the pushing! Not ideal for those early days photos with me looking like something from a horror film cradling my beautiful new baby 😂)

Thanks so much everyone! What with wearing my black face mask I was considering wearing a black eye patch too Gabriella eat your heart out! But seriously it’s made me feel better knowing others have had it

I've had this twice - both times took about a week to clear up - once after excessive vomiting and the other after a medical procedure
