Help - flea bite?

I have a 7 week old baby & I have a cat which i am paranoid about keeping away from the baby. I have just noticed a very tiny red mark on his face (the baby's not the cat's) which looks suspicously (not v good at spelling!) like a flea bite. Am slightly concerned as baby not had immunisations yet and don't know history of cat. Anybody know anything about flea bites and babies?

KathH..it is quite understandable that you're a little concerned..

when ds was 8 months I actually watched a flea jump on to his forehead ...I was mortified...and yes we had a cat and he had fleas (I had bites all over my legs which constantly itched..yuk)..don't honeastly know if it would be worse for a baby than an 8 month old so perhaps you could give the doctor a ring tomorrow or ring NHS direct if it's really praying on your mind...am sure they are not huge disease carriers but better to check this out...give your baby lots of hugs poor thing

I don't even think he's noticed! I'm torn between feeling mortified that my cat has fleas and wondering if we'll all have bubonic plague by tomorrow!

wasn't it the Black Death that was psread by rats...no seriously when we used to go to bed my dh was convinced that he could see the fleas jumping about a foot into the air from the carpet and in the bed too....our house was so badly infected that we had to call the Council in (it was a rented house) and they made us hoover every single carpet, in particular the corners near the radiators where the eggs hatch (eek), wash all the bed linen at high temp's and then they sprayed it with this chemical which was very strong (and is available from your vet...and we had to spray the cat too...not with that stuff though...it's about £10-£15 a tin but worth it)..it is awful knowing that little bugs are watching you (zap em!!).

KathH
We have an old cat and now 2 12 week old kittens. I noticed today that they have fleas, and so have put frontline drops on the old cat (he's the carrier, since the kittens haven't been out yet) and hoovered all the carpets too.Best thing to do is get frontline or other drops from the vet and in the meantime use a fleacomb on the cat to get rid of eggs and fleas. I'm positive that your baby wont have any ill-effects, if it really is a flea bite, but do contact the health visitor if you're concerned. I feel itchy just typing this!
