Lumpy Breasts - would you be reassured by this GP appointment?

I have bad health anxiety which I've just started getting help with. One of my current obsessions is breast lumps.

I've noticed my breasts can sometimes be quite lumpy & "ropey", whereas sometimes they're really quite soft - seem to feel different everytime I touch them! I think the lumpiness is linked to when I'm on my period.

When I find these lumps it freaks me out and I poke and prod until I'm sore. I've considered speaking to the GP before but they disappear after a few days only to pop up again a few weeks later - often in different places!

I think I'm due a period (perimenopause so a bit eratic) and my boobs have started getting lumpy again. Last night I felt one lump which worried me as it felt harder than others I've had. After a sleepless night of prodding I called the GP this morning who asked me to come in.

She examined me and said she could feel nothing but normal breast tissue and I wasn't even that lumpy. I made sure she felt the bump I was worried about and still said it felt normal. She told me to examine with the flat of my hand and not dig about with fingers. I said I was worried I couldn't tell the difference between normal lumpy breast tissue and something more worrying but she just said to check once a month, didn't seem to have an answer for that.

She said, health anxiety aside, if she had felt something she was unsure of she would've referred me, but she wasn't worried and urged me to persevere with tackling the health anxiety.

Should I be reassured by this? Hopefully, the lump will go soon like the others (fingers crossed).

Anyone else have boobs that behave like this?

Thanks.

Hi. I had another cyst drained on one breast and an abcess on the other that they drained in December. All clear though, the wait for the biopsies wasn’t fun! they just said I may be prone to them and there’s not a lot I can do. They suggested taking evening primrose oil and that helps and maybe reduce caffeine and stop vaping. The evening primrose does seem to help. I have reduced my coffee intake and I’m trying to cut down on vaping, which is hard when you stressed about breast!!! Lol. Still get breast pain and worry they may refill, but I’m trying not to worry so much as I’m sure that doesn’t help either . So although it’s not very nice being prone to them have all clears so far. Try not to worry if you can hope all goes well at the clinic

OP here!

I ended up getting referred to the breast clinic by the second GP. Mammogram & ultrasound all completely normal. I also had my routine screening Mammogram recently (it's now nearly 18 months since the breast clinic visit). Again all fine. I still have lumpy breasts!

Thanks for update.
Well somebody has to have them, right? ;-)

I went to doctor with same thing (30 odd years ago) and was referred to a specialist. They found nothing wrong but advised to stop having caffeine as they said this can cause it.
