Bleeding from bottom

I have (controlled) health anxiety which developed a few years ago during a particularly stressful time and i've worked really hard to get on top of it, but I can feel myself beginning to slide. This morning when I went for a poo I had some blood when I wiped which lasted for a good few wipes. It was separate from the poo and red, I thought quite dark, but my husband said normal blood colour to him. My bum did feel a little itchy and irritated this morning and yesterday I did do a particularly big poo, but had normal wiping. My rational mind says I've given myself a tear from the big poo which I aggravated by itching (it currently feels a little stingy), but my panicked mind is telling me something else. If it continues for a couple of days I will contact GP, which I'm desperate to do now, but feel like it's too soon and I already must have hypochondriac stamped all over my notes.
In the meantime, would be really grateful for some input from anyone with medical knowledge. If it's a tear from my poo yesterday wouldn't I have bled then as well? I had a colonoscopy and stomach mri three years ago at the height of my health anxiety which all came back clear. What's the likelihood of something concerning developing since then? Thank you!

i think your husband is probably right. Slap some vaseline or sudacrem on it if you've got it. You could also have piles, they can bleed a little when you wipe.

Teaforme123 · 31/03/2022 12:19

It could be a small fissure (tear) more likely to be piles. Get some cream see if it helps. If the fissure is too big you might need it looking at though.

If it were a tear ( anal fissure) it would be excruciatingly painful when you next opened your bowels. If it looks like fresh blood I would bet you had some haemorrhoids. For peace of mind, you could see your GP ( if you can!) And have a swift rectal examination.
If the blood is dark, not fresh, if you have had a change in bowel habit, then is the time to see a GP, definitely.
This sounds benign but I understand your concern.
Hope all will be well.

It’s likely piles. I’ve had an anal fissure years ago when I was pregnant with DS3 and it went on for a year that I ended up having surgery. BUT it hurt so much when I pooed that I was physically shaking and sweating. I found labour easier than the anal fissure! Yours sounds more like piles - itchy and bright red blood. If I was you, I’d get some anusol suppositories (they really help calm it down and if it is a fissure will soothe that). Have a warm bath if it’s itchy as the heat helps soothe. Drink plenty of water and lots of veg to keep regular. Prune juice is good and I have that if I ever over do it and end up a bit constipated. Good luck, but piles are v common. If it continues see a doctor though.

Yes dark brown blood is a sign it’s mixed with oxygen or ‘old blood’ (further up the digestion process, needs looking at). Bright red blood means it hasn’t mixed with oxygen so from the anus / piles / fissure type thing.

MorningSicknessIsHell · 31/03/2022 14:06

I've got the same op, but bright red when I wipe. I think it's a pile from previous pregnancies.

Just wondering what people do about this? If anything?

This doesn't always hold true.

Dark blood is more concerning and bright red blood is often from something like piles, but bright red blood can also come from higher up.

Honestly op, especially given your health anxiety, I think you should make an appointment to get it checked out. It's probably piles but won't do any harm to check. In the meantime, try not to worry.

@MorningSicknessIsHell yes probably piles but all bleeding should be checked by a doctor

I needed a colonscopy anyway and the doctor doing it took the opportunity to put rubber bands on the haemorrhoids and they dropped off no problems.
