I've name changes because this is quite outing.
Anyway, my partner had surgery on Thursday to remove his bile duct and a few other bits (he had something called a hepatico jejeneustomy). Big op, got out of ICU yesterday, feeding tube removed yesterday. Seems to be doing fine. He has just told me that the hospital are going to send him home tomorrow!
However, on Friday I tested positive for covid. On Saturday my eldest DD tested positive. My youngest has sickness, a temperature and terrible diarrhea but is testing negative for COVID. The hospital is aware of this but are still considering sending him back here. They say a nurse will phone me to talk through the detail.
WTF? Can they really send him home to such an unsafe environment? The last thing he needs is a stomach bug or COVID after serious abdominal surgery!
Do they not have a duty of care to ensure his home environment is safe, before they discharge him?
I don't know to what extent he is even able to look after himself at the moment. He is doses up to the eyeballs in oramorph. I'm struggling to look after the dog and the kids atm because of COVID fatigue/headache and lack of sleep.
The house is a tip. Madness! What can I do? What should I say to the hospital?
I've left a message with PALS but they are quite busy and I doubt they will get back to in time.
For background, this ward has form for discharging too early. My partner was sent home before he was stable after his original biopsy, back in November, which resulted in him being readmitted multiple times with pancreatitis, internal bleeding, and a post operative infection. Their readmission procedure is so poor that at one point he spent 9 hours on the floor of A&E with an infected gallbladder, which eventually burst, then set home with painkillers before being readmitted hours later.
How do I stop a repeat of the above and ensure he isn't let home until it is safe?
