Should I keep waking ds up during the night?

Ds1 cut his head quite badly at around 7.15 tonight,on the bathroom door lock.
It bled quite alot and it even took us a while to find the cut as there was so much blood.Anyway, after a few mins he stopped crying and was back to his normal self, while I was mopping up the cut to stop it bleeding.
By 7.30ish it had stopped bleeding but I still wasn't sure whether to take him to A&E,so I rang NHS direct instead to see what they would say.The nurse basically asked loads of questions then said to have him sleep with us tonight and to wake him up every 2 hours, although she said it didn't have to be fully-just enough for him to push us away and go back to sleep.
Dh read him a very long story, gave him some Calpol and he fell asleep about 8.45.Have checked on him a few times and he's fast asleep and he's head isn't bleeding, although he now has a rather large bump.
The nurse also said to look out for vomiting, fits and eye's rolling etc but just wondered is it really neccessary to actually wake him every 2 hours? He's in his own bed as he's never slept in ours before and probably wouldn't sleep if he was in with us,like she suggested.Obviously I will keep checking on but am wondering whether to wake him up each time.
Any thoughts please?

I would probably just tickle his feet just so you get a response of some sort.

Agree with tortoise - just to be sure.

Thanks.
I'm off to bed in a moment,so think I'll set my alarm for around 2am and go in there and tickle him.

Also check to see if he develops "panda eyes" - dark circular area around his eyes. If so, head immediately for the hospital.

It sounds like all is fine, though.

Thanks.Haven't heard of that one before, but will have a look when I check on him.
