I was diagnosed with endo about 7 months ago.I had a laparoscopy before christmas to remove a 10cm chocolate cyst from my right ovary.
The registrar wanted to give me an injection in the recovery room after the procedure to shrink the endo but as this hadn't been discussed with me before hand and i was still half asleeep i refused-glad i did as i found out i would not be able to fall pg whilst having this injection and we are ttc #2(they were aware of this).
I have got an appt with my consultant at the end of Feb and was wondering what questions i should be asking regarding my condition and possible treatment and it's effect on ttc.
Any help will be gladly received.

You need to ask:

  • how severe the adhesions are (if any)
  • If they did a lap and dye test and if it was all clear (ie are your tubes open)
  • What if anything you can do to reduce symptoms without taking medication (weight loss sometimes helps).
  • If you can have day 21 tests to check you are ovulating
  • What the plan is for assisted conception if you fail to conceive naturally.

Hope that helps.

LOL - course you can - glad to be of help. Have you contacted the Endometriosis society - they have a good helpline www.endo.org.uk/

nobodysfool · 06/01/2008 21:55

Had a look at their website and was thinking about calling the helpline do you know if it's any good or will they just spout a load of jargon at me?

Yes they are good actually. I called them with a deeply technical question and they answered it in plain english. They will also support you in getting info out of your consultant - sometimes they don't explain well so you have to go in with your questions prepared like you are doing (well done you) and be prepared to press them (against a wall if necc. ).

Will give them a call.If i'm not ovulating will he give me clomid?I have a fantastic gp now so could i go to her and ask for the 21 day test?Had this test ages ago when i was ttc #1 and i was told i was erractic(my dh agress 100%)nothing was ever done to help me ovulate and i thankfully got pg about 9 months later.
I like to go in with as much info as possible and understand as much possible.Don't think it goes down well sometimes.oh well its my body.

Possibly. I hated Clomid and developed ovarian hyperstimulation - metformin is good - you will lose lots of weight though. Personally acupuncture did it for me.

Looked into acupuncture site after we last spoke and nobody in my area specializes in fertility-helpful.I had it about 7 years ago to treat my eczema and it worked fantastically although she was a psycho chinese lady who seemed to love putting needles in me far to much.

Umm lovely. Best thing is to ring up your potential acupuncturist and see if you get the right feeling with them. Most will treat infertility and such, but it does help if you don't actively want to stab them with their own needles
