DD12 acne and dermatitis

DD12 started developing a few weird skin conditions (e.g. peeling skin on fingers and toes) as well as acne on her face and back.
Her scalp is also very flakey, with big dandruffs. She washes her hair every other day with a tresemme standard shampoo.
Since last week, she has a couple of dermatitis patches under her eyebrows which look red and flakey.

She attended the GP for Raynaud like symptoms on her hands, and the GP prescribed a topical antibiotics skin for the acne, which DH and I were fairly surprised at (it s a few spots, not major acne breakouts).

I m wondering about the dermatitis and scalp and whether there is anything we can do about it (the GP was nonplused about it but made big deal of the spots).

DD cares more about the flakes / dandruffs than the spots...

I had terrible flaky scalp in my teens and used a shampoo called Alphosyl. I’d tried so many things and this was the only thing that worked for me. My DS has eczema and I use it on him and it’s cleared his dry scalp too.

It might not work for your DD as it’s trial and error with these things but maybe worth a try?

Dandruff is fungal so you need a dandruff shampoo like Nizoral or if taking a natural approach shampoo with tea tree oil or turmeric.

The dermatitis in fingers, toes and eyebrow area could also be fungal in origin and the GP should prescribe you a combo antifungal and cortisone cream like Daktacort to clear it up. It could also not be fungal at all, but Daktacort will still clear it up and it doesn’t hurt to have the antifungal applied just in case...as in if she’s scratched her scalp, the fungus has got on her fingers and then she touched her face, rubbed her eyes so now it’s on eyebrow area...it’s that infectious. So it’s worth asking for a combi cream like Daktacort that can tackle both fungal infection and allergic reaction if it is simply dermatitis from some allergic triggers. There are no side effects you’d be risking by going for a combi cream vs, a simple cortisone only cream.

One of the best ways to fight fungal infections is to also have probiotics in your diet. So for example, have your DD eat a serving of sugar free live culture yogurt every day. Tell her also not to scratch her scalp and if she slips up and scratches, to wash her hands immediately after.
