MS

Please may I ask what symptoms lead to your MS diagnosis?

How long did your relapses last? What did the numbness feel like? Was it proper numbness or tingling?

I have some issues with my left leg and the doctors said it could be MS but I suppose I would like to hear experiences of it please whilst I wait for MRI and neurologist

Appreciate any replies

the symptom that led to mine was numbness in the left leg. It came on very suddenly and quickly spread from my foot to my whole leg. It lasted a few months before gradually fading out.

It felt both heavy and light at the same time (hard to describe) and while i could feel if I pressed my finger tips into it the sensation was different (like light pins and needles). There was also a background sensation of light tingling.

I also had background symptoms I didn't connect with MS until later like a strong startle reflex, feeling rubbish in hot weather, vertigo etc.

I was diagnosed last year by MRI and LP and haven't had any relapses since.

The strong startle reflex - was it all the time? And did it feel like any loud noise proper made you feel like electricity went through your body? Sorry for the questions!

Sorry I didn't see your response @Sunflowersinthewind. For me it was sort of like a quick jolt though not just at things like loud noises. In fact it was most often due to things / people suddenly appearing when i hadn't noticed them before (like walking down a corridor and someone suddenly coming in the opposite direction) - not things that would usually make someone jump. It would be worse at times and better at others but for years I thought it was just a 'me' thing or that I might have anxiety. Its only now I know it can be an MS symptom that I notice it sometimes vanishes for months.

I think (and this is not scientifically based but just going on what it feels like) it happens because MS can affect your ability to process things, especially when in a relapse or fatigued. Its not usually enough to notice but if your brain isn't processing a sound or sight at the exact same time as its happening it can cause a sort of WTF mini panic

Sunflowersinthewind · 28/03/2022 09:37

Thanks for replying, I get that too but not all the time. I know exactly what you mean about its anything sort of sudden that causes this mini panic feeling. Mine comes and goes and usually accompanies when I find any noise or touch a bit too much. I had my MRI Saturday so just waiting for results

If it is MS its really not too bad. I haven't had a single relapse since the one that led to diagnosis and I'm not even on the more effective type of medication yet (due to breastfeeding)

Wishing you all the best

Thought I would update as you had been kind to reply, MRI was normal so neurologist thinks it was a mini-stroke.
