Ds1 has had it and now ds2 is getting it and i've suddenly got loads coming up and i'm all itchy, and panicking because i've not had it before. Should I be worried? Has anyone else had it?

Doo-dah is such a funny word. My mum uses it to describe sanitary towels. If i go
to the supermarket with her she says 'do you need any doo-dahs?' usually when there are other people within earshot. Dh heard her say it and thought it was a word that everyone uses so he says it now too.

I thought i was getting something a few days ago. My face felt really swollen so i did take some antihistamines, plus my asthma got worse. Last night my chest was really painful. Hopefully that was the worst of it.

I had CP at 34 and had spots in places I don't normally get suntanned.... nipples and all. Thankfully my nether regions escaped . Twas slightly unpleasant washing my hair after about 3 weeks since not only was it totally greasy, I had to use a fine comb to comb out the dried-up scabs off my scalp.... boy that was painful. I did get it quite badly though, wouldn't wish it on anyone. Hopefully yours will pass quite quickly.

FlorenceFarkingNightingale · 06/01/2008 22:19

lazarou - could you not get your mum to do the nursery run for you instead? You don't want to risk passing it on to the children there, and it is so easily spread.

lazarou · 06/01/2008 22:24

I could do but i have to walk there and it's very cold. My mum has been moving house and is really knackered at the moment. I feel bad about her coming round at all. I would ask dh to take him but he has to leave at 7.15.
My dad normally takes him but he has to go to scotland 2mo on business.

Oh poor you - I had CP in my mid-30s. Eurax is good. I didn't find antihistamines helped but I would give the zirtek a try as it might help you. Make sure you keep your temp down as you will itch more if hot and sweaty.

I would really try to avoid going out to nursery if you can. CP is dangerous for pg women and anyone with a compromised immune system so you should really stay in while you are infectious, sorry.

Oh, and give your doc a call in case they want to see you. Mine insisted I go down. I wasn't allowed to sit in the waiting room though, I had to run straight through and go and sit on a chair outside my doctor's room (the so-called `spotty chair' apparently).

FlorenceFarkingNightingale · 06/01/2008 22:38

Afraid I'm with jellycat on this one really. If ds can't get to nursery without you, then he should prob stay at home. The other parents are unlikely to be sympathetic if their children (and in turn possibly they) get it from you knowingly coming into contact whilst contagious.

Quattrocento · 06/01/2008 22:42

God chickenpox as an adult is perfectly ghastly - you have all my sympathy

lazarou · 07/01/2008 08:08

Well, im covered in them this morning. My mum has taken ds to nursery, and ds2 was up all night with a temperature and throwing up. He's covered in spots as well now.
I'll give the docs a call. Thanks for the advice and sympathy everyone. Scratch scratch

How are you feeling now Lazarou? DD is back in circulation here, and dh would be if he actually had anywhere to go!

lazarou · 09/01/2008 17:41

Hi Florence. I can see why everyone was so sympathetic, it's one of the worst things ive ever had. I'm still covered, they are everyqwhere and still itchy. I think they are in my throat as well.
Ds2 has been very ill, his temperature was up to 40degrees a couple of nights ago, and he's been awake all night for a couple of nights. I hate being ill, and my fac is covered, I look like somethnig from star trek.
When my mum took ds1 to nursery the manager told her she had mumps a couple of weeks ago! Anyway, glad your dd and dh are on the mend.

I got chicken pox when I was about 23.
I had left work early as I was being taken to the Berkley Square Ball by a man I was absoloutely smitten with but nothing had happened and I couldn't get him to ask me out before. First date [ahhh].
I had spent two weeks making the flippin dress ( I was broke) and had pleaded with my boss to let me leave work early to go to gorgeous mans house to change.
I didn't have any symptoms until showering after which I had what I thought was heat rash. I ended up dotting concealer all over my chest and neck and went anyway . I must have looked lovely .
Woke up next day ( in close proximity to the man of me dreams) to find that dreamyman was flinching and winching at the sight of me.
So the happiest day og my life and I had a face like a pizza.
The bad news was that me and dreamyman became great friends [damm emocion].The good news was the look on my bosses face when he turned up the next day at my home assuming that I was faking illness with a hangover.
He ran away and phoned later with a grovelling apology for not believing me .

lazarou · 09/01/2008 18:03

Pagwatch, I am not going anywhere in public for a while. My face looks dreadful. I'm sure it's swollen up too.
All my glands have been up as well so my head looks like a potato.
I feel so bad for ds, he's got so many spots and loads of them are around his bottom.
Oh, and I've also got a massive one on the end of my nose, bloody typical.

OP posts:
BadKitten · 09/01/2008 19:00

ooooh, just spotted (groan!) this you, you poor, poor thing. With all your glands up it might be worth asking for a telephone conversation with your gp just to make sure you are heading in the right direction.

murphyslaw · 09/01/2008 19:03

I had chickenpox for the 2nd time! - Yes tell me about it you can get it more than once rare I know. I got it the same time as my dd who was very clingy to me. We literally had to go through it together. It was the most miserable time. Get as much help as you can.

lazarou · 09/01/2008 21:54

My glands seem to have settled down a bit now. Still itchy, but some of them are scabbing over now. Dh keeps staring at my nose. I have to keep telling him 'Don't look at me'
My mum came round this morning and then her and my dad took ds1 to the pub for lunch. Ds2 and I just lay on the sofa feeling sorry for ourselves.
