Astigmatism

Hi all

I've just been diagnosed with astigmatism within my eye site. Usually worse at night with lights and when I am driving at night.

Long distance vision is not great, anything close is fine ... has anyone had this? And if so has yours been at least 'bettered' by wearing glasses all the time?

yes I also have fairly short sight (-9.5 ish) and astigmatism of about -2. I do find glare much more of a problem, even with glare coatings, and I find it very difficult to get contact lenses as my astigmatism is at oblique angles that daily lenses aren't available in (and I have developed allergies to solutions so can't wear the monthly ones either). So if you are lucky, you will have normal angles that mean you can get contact lenses easily.

I also find that it can take a long time to get glasses lenses to be perfectly adjusted, as even the tiniest discrepancies can make a big difference, and if they measure the angle wrongly, it is really noticeable. So don't be afraid to go back repeatedly if needed if your glasses don't seem right! And make sure that they are measuring all the dimensions - not worth trying to buy glasses online, even if they do them in your prescription (they don't in mine).

I’m long sighted with astigmatism in one eye, I don’t know my numbers. I tend to wear my glasses most of the day now but take them off to eat. Interesting about people seeing halos around lights at night, I’d describe mine more like a starburst or streaks.
