Can you have a chest infection and not really cough?

I had a chest infection which lead to pneumonia and was treated with two courses of Doxycycline last year and recently started feeling the same roughness again.
So I phoned GP and got another course of Doxy which seemed to be shifting it, had another 5 days prescribed and take my last tablet tomorrow.
But it's no better. In fact I feel like I have a small goat stop on my chest and I've had to use my inhaler twice today and I never really need it. I was shivery yesterday and feel drained.
I cough now and then but there isn't much coming up.
I'm not looking for a diagnosis, I'm phoning the GP on Monday, but is it possible to have a chest infection that doesn't feature a productive cough and isn't cleared by Doxy? I'm starting to get worried.

Yes, a chest infection does not always include a cough. You may need a different antibiotic. Have you had a chest x-ray?

@LizDoingTheCanCan Thank you for replying.
I had a chest xray last year which showed up inflammation. and then a second X-ray several weeks later which presumably came back clear as I got the 'no further action' when I phoned for results.
I expect they will organise another when I phone on Monday.
I had Covid March 2020 and my chest was bad after that.
I am worrying which I know isn't helping

A short course of steroids might shift it.

Definitely.
When my dd had bad pneumonia (took 3 lots of antibiotics to get rid of it) her main symptom was a sore shoulder. No cough at all, and not even cold signs for at least 3 months beforehand.

When she did start to cough the Drs said that was a really good sign that the blockage was beginning to move. She started coughing on about day 5 of the first antibiotics.

Yes. Also pleurisy/pleural effusions. I didn't cough with either of those (which was great because just breathing normally was painful enough!).

The last time I had pneumonia
The cough didn't start until I had left hospital
About a week after starting antibiotics

Yes I had this few years ago. I think it look three weeks and lots of antibiotics to clear because I wasn't coughing. I really had to try to cough and it took a lot of hacking to actually get it up.
