Dents in breasts

Livysmom13 · 18/03/2022 19:32

So I'm almost 40 and decided I better give my breasts a proper exam. Following the directions online I did that and found lumps everywhere. I believe they are all (or most) cysts. I also found dents/creases at the bottom sides of each breast, more pronounced on the left. They are most noticeable when my arms are squeezing down at my sides and then dissappear when I raise my arms. This is what really freaked me out. So yesterday I had my breast exam and the practitioner was very kind and reassuring. She felt my cysts and is referring me for ultrasound for those. She saw the creases and seemed to think they were normal and probably from aging/weight gain since they are more of a crease than a dent/dimple. The problem is when I got home i remembered seeing a dent/dimple above the crease this is only noticeable when I squeeze or push the tissue down and across. I ignored that since it was smaller than the creases but it popped into my head after my appointment becauseof what she said. I am waiting the ultrasound place to give me a call and can do nothing but panick in the mean time. Hoping someone might be going through something similar.

Hi Sarah,

Hope you’re well, I’ve not actually called yet 🤦🏻‍♀️ But it’s still there.

Is your dent actually on your breast or where mine is? Have you made an appt with your GP? X

sarah1303 · 11/06/2022 14:04

Hi, mine is higher up than yours and more of a longer dent and a crease underneath. I have an appointment with the GP on the 20th. I have posted on a couple of forums and a few people have commented they had something similar and all was normal, so that’s reassuring, can’t help but worry though! X

EAEL92 · 11/06/2022 15:25

Ahh really, mine is more on my stomach right under my breast bone than on my breast itself.

I always forget about it until I look 🙈 good luck with your appointment, at least you have a bit of reassurance (which sometimes means nothing to someone with major health anxiety like myself) but please keep us updated on it. X

Livysmom13 · 11/06/2022 16:23

Hi sarah1303, I'm glad my outcome was able to reassure you! I've come to the conclusion recently that Google will tell you that you likely have cancer nomatter your symptoms and 99 percent of the time it's not cancer. Are you going to go get your dent checked? I'm sure its nothing but it definitely is worth the peace of mind to check. I also was hoping to get an update from EAEL 92. I hope her appointment went well!

Oops, I just saw the update from EAEL92. sarah1303, your dent sounds very similar to mine. I was absolutely convinced it could only be cancer becausethat'swhat Google would have you believe. Im sure you are finding out that lots of women can have dents that are nothing sinister.

Hi Livysmom, thanks so much for replying to my message. I have a GP appointment on the 20th June. Although it’s not that far away I know I will be sick with worry until then 😖

EAEL92 - I also suffer with horrendous health anxiety, I feel like it’s ruining my life and I can’t enjoy anything!

I have attached a pic of the dent, the one on the top is what I’m most worried about. The bottom one looks more like a crease where the skin folds at the bottom I think. I saw a GP about it a few years ago (probably 4-5 years ago) and they said it all looked/felt normal so didn’t refer me for a scan. She didn’t look at the dimple properly though as it can only be seen if I raise my arm and use a mirror low down to see it, as the dent/dimple is right at the bottom. Anyway, that was years ago, and since then I haven’t really thought about it, until I looked a few days ago. I noticed a little spot in the area which is what prompted me to check again with the mirror. I think the dimpling looks worse since I last checked but I can’t be sure as I don’t have an old picture to compare it to. Now I’m worrying that if it is something sinister, it will have been present for years which means I could have caught it too late (that’s my health anxiety spiralling out of control!). X

Hi sarah 1303. I totally understand the feelings of worry. And even just a day of feeling that way can be overwhelming, let alone having to wait over a week. I suffer from pretty bad health anxiety as well that has led me into panic many times over fears mostly of cancer. I have thought I've had probably a dozen different types of cancer from skin to breast to throat to lymphoma. All of which I have fortunately been wrong about. I am attaching a picture as well to hopefully reassure you that you have nothing to worry about. From the photo you provided, I'd say that looks completely normal. I think mine looks much more like a dent, whereas yours looks to me more like a crease in the skin. For some reason in my photo the dent looks red, however it is not. The red area is just an indent/crease. I have one on the other breast as well but its not as distinct. It only looks this way when I push my arm forward towards my breast. When I relax my arms it diminishes and when I raise my arms it goes away

Hi Livysmom, I’m sorry you also experience health anxiety, it’s so awful isn’t it 😞 last week I was worrying about skin cancer and now this!

Thank you for a sending a pic, it’s so helpful and reassuring to see a photo of something which is NOT cancer, rather than all the worrying images I’ve seen on google!! Im relieved you think mine looks normal, hopefully the doctor thinks so too.

Thank so much again for your reassurance and support 😊 xx

Hi! I realize this is an older thread but i have an identical indent under me breast and have been freaking out. Have a mammogram and ultrasound scheduled, but wondering what yours turned out to be? I just had my 3rd baby and it seemed to appear during this pregnancy.

Tookieclothespin · 10/09/2022 16:25

That was supposed to be about EAEL92 picture of the dent on the ribs, sorry I’m new to the site and still figuring out how to reply correctly!

EAEL92 · 10/09/2022 18:46

@Tookieclothespin I know it’s been a while but I’ve not been the GP, as it seems to be only when I wear certain sports bra’s and isn’t there when I don’t wear a bra all day so I’m thinking maybe it is the marking off them. I think it’s one of those I’ve had it for ages and not noticed it, it’s not on my breast more so under the breast bone where the bra sits. 🤷🏻‍♀️ There’s no pain or lumps near it either so god knows. I hope everything comes back OK for you, maybe go a day without wearing a bra to see if it’s caused by them but obviously go to your doctor still! X

Tookieclothespin · 11/09/2022 18:59

@EAEL92 Mine is in the same spot, right at the crease mostly on my chestwall not actually on my breast. It is still there whether I wear a bra or not but can only really be felt or seen if I lift my breast up (after breastfeeding 2 and now my third, they have to be lifted 😂) I'll update when I have my mammogram and ultrasound done at the end of this week to hopefully give you some reassurance too.

Aquarius1234 · 12/09/2022 09:58

Hi
Slightly different but I have a raised spot on my breast bear the side of bra strap area. I thought it was nothing few weeks back, as I have a few different marks and skin tags with age and also put on weight last few years.
I'm now worried and thinking the worse.

Aquarius1234 · 12/09/2022 09:59

*near.

Thetalltree1234 · 10/03/2024 15:34

Please can anyone help. I found a dent in one breast. I did have an ultrasound two years ago and nothing was picked up then but now I have spotted a dent. No idea how long it’s been there. I am 40. I will call the doctor tomorrow. Has anyone had this and it’s been ok?

coloursquare · 10/03/2024 15:57

I have had a dent and it was ok, but you must get it checked. It was taken very seriously. Don't panic, but you need to make sure you are referred on 2WW.

I'd create a new thread if I were you, this one is over 18 months old, you may get more replies

Thetalltree1234 · 10/03/2024 17:25

Thank you. I’m new to this and I thought it was 🤦🏼‍♀️

Livysmom13 · 10/03/2024 18:45

Thetalltree1234 this looks very similar to mine and mine ended up being absolutely nothing. If course you are doing the right thing by getting it checked. I'm just saying, try not to panick because it could be nothing aside from normal changes to your body. Have you gained it lost weight recently? Also, does the dent become more pronounced when you lift your arms? When you lower them?

OP posts:
RollOnSpringDays · 10/03/2024 21:15

It could be normal for you. But I’d err on the side of caution as a colleague had a dent as her only symptom of breast cancer.

Thetalltree1234 · 11/03/2024 07:54

Thank you for replying. No chances in weight. Yeh it’s not there unless I lift my arm.

Thetalltree1234 · 11/03/2024 07:55

Also is yours still there or has it gone?

Livysmom13 · 11/03/2024 14:50

Mine is still there. Looks exactly the same. It could be nothing it it could be a cyst. It could be anything so try not to think the worst.
