Good quality wigs for chemo patients

Hi. My relative has recently started chemo and has been trying to find a good quality wig but is not having much luck. Has anybody found anywhere good in Edinburgh, Glasgow or Dundee? Many thanks in advance.

Worth asking their Chemo nurses, I'm much further South but I got mine from somewhere my nurse recommended.

Hugs to your relative.

Thank you. They don't seem to have come up with anything but she's in a gain on Wednesday so she will ask then.

If you can get one try Vicki Ullah wigs - inexpensive synthetic but very realistic. They used to sell in harrods and there are a couple on eBay - I paid about £100 12 years ago, they lasted 6 months and were brilliant.

I know that’s not local but they are worth trying to ship.

Sorry to hear about your relative. I agree, normally the hospital would have a store of wigs to loan (pre-covid, so not sure about now) or at least advice of wigs, bandanas and head covering options.

1 company I've used for wigs is the one I'll link below. Mine were for dress ups, so not for daily use, but have been used many times over and still look great. I found the quality much better than the cheap types you'd buy in a dress-up shop.

Simply Wigs on line. They have a really good selection

My friend has alopecia & has a wig shop in N Derbyshire, she also does consultations by video if you can't get to the shop. She sells wigs from under £100 right up to well over £1000, she won't sell anything she isn't prepared to wear herself. Her shop is Aspire Hair, she is on Facebook & Instagram.

I used LA Hair Solutions, they were on the list my BC nurse gave me - they supply wigs for chemo patients on NHS, so mine was free. I couldn’t find what I was looking for, but then again it’s very difficult to find a pixie haircut style wig. However, what I eventually ended up with was adequate and the lady came to my place with a selection. I had a week to choose from a selection she brought over. It may be possible to go in person nowadays - I needed one in August 2020, smack in the middle of lockdown, so couldn’t.

If she is a member of a facebook group for her cancer, there is often a rehoming section for wigs and wraps etc .
If she doesnt fancy preloved items she can ask people who have followed the same path as her what they have done.
Worth checking out.

My first wig was from a shop in the east midlands and I used a voucher from the clinic to help with the cost - I hope the NHS is still using this scheme.

I also got a wig by post from Paula Young in London (Jacqueline Collection, 9 Fenning Street, London SE1 3QR) and it was very good, in fact more comfortable. I've no connection with them by the way.

In their catalogue there is advice on how and where to measure your head for a good fit, loads of styles and colours and I was very happy with it. There are sales now and again so not too expensive. Best of luck and hope the chemo goes well.
