Rib squeezing/ MS Hug symptoms. Is it always MS? Anyone had the ‘hug’ but had a different diagnosis?

Hi,

Hoping for some advice and maybe reassurance please.

My DH has had a few odd symptoms over the years but has a number of conditions so that’s not a complete surprise, but he does have an occasional strong squeezing or tightening feeling around the front of his chest and ribs at about the height of his stomach. It lasts a few hours or so, maybe a day. It doesn’t coincide with any lifting, back pain, slipping, sport or anything obvious.

He has also had occasional tremors and some spasms but with other conditions and meds it’s all a bit vague and overlapping sometimes.

I came across a mention of the MS hug and on reading, it fits very much with what he feels. It’s a bit of a shock but when I think about it not completely unlikely based on other symptoms :o(

He will be reluctant to talk with his GP about yet another condition so I’m left wondering for now.

Has anyone had the hug symptoms but been diagnosed with something else? Or does this usually mean MS? ☹️

Thanks

He should go to the Dr.

B12 deficiency can mimic MS in many ways.

Thanks dotdotsot.

He will go to the doctor, eventually. I won’t let it go on and he’s due to go in the next month anyway.

Good idea for b12 although we do take a supplement but I know that isn’t always easily absorbed.

Hope it will be something else. He really could do without any more health difficulties.

What are his other symptoms ? Do they come and go ? How long do they last ? Does he have symptom free periods ?

I understand his reluctance to look into yet another illness, I've been there myself. But MS isn't a death warrant and most of us are put onto disease modifying drugs fairly soon after diagnosis so that things don't progress.i had rib pain that I assumed was costochondritis years before diagnosis but not had the hug since.
Hope you can find some answers soon.
