Blimey. Glad you are recovering and getting the proper treatment.

Perhaps it is a good thing in the long run as the unnderlying condition is recognised before major problems occurred??

Misdee · 05/01/2008 17:17

dh had several, but that was due to his LVAD.

he was 27/28 at the time.

brimfull · 05/01/2008 17:18

misdee-I remember you mentioning that. How is he now?

Have a look at the website for the Stroke Association if you have not done so already:-

www.stroke.org.uk

This has lots of information on it about TIA's.

It is no respector of persons: a stroke can happen regardless of age. Even babies can have strokes.

SantaBeClausImWorthIt · 05/01/2008 17:20

No experience here, just wanted to add my sympathies. Hope you have made a full recovery.

Did they give you any idea why this might have happened?

lilolilmanchester · 05/01/2008 17:21

A friend of mine had one at 40, 5 years ago, and I know a Mum at school had one early-mid 30s a couple of years ago. You might be comforted to know that both are fully recovered with no after effects. Hope things go that well for you too, ggirl, must be scarey for you.

Shaniece · 05/01/2008 17:22

A good friend of mine had a mini stroke at the age of 27 , this was 1 year ago and nothing since. She is absolutely fine now. I think it is more common than we think.

wotsits · 05/01/2008 17:22

Take care of yourself, ggirl. My dad had one when he was about 42, just the one attack. Touch wood, 22 years later he's still healthy.

Shaniece · 05/01/2008 17:24

Did they say what could have caused it ggirl?

Misdee · 05/01/2008 17:25

tbh, his were possibly more that TIA, the first one wreaked the sight in one eye, he now wears very strong glasses, second one he recovered from fast and easily(very likely just a TIA that one), the third one has affected his short term memory. he has an appointment next week at harefield, and will be askign for referral for help with the memory loss.

they are scary and a real wake up call.

dont worry about th nopt driving for a month, it wil;l fly by.

brimfull · 05/01/2008 17:31

thanks everyone

you're right misdee the driving is small fry really

they are puzzled by the cause

probably familial,my dad had one
also I have pcos so more at risk

ggirl - I remember my friend was told the possible cause was the contraceptive pill (have no idea why). Other than that she is a healthy 27 year old with no other health probs and is very slim.

brimfull · 05/01/2008 17:34

Not on the pill

Would probably be dead if I was
