Irritable Bowel Syndrome - I'm in lots of pain here...

...have hot water bottle, but does anyone have any pain reducing tips?

I don't get it all of the time, it tends to be in bouts. This started at a friends house on NYE and every morning since I have been in pain. This morning it is really quite bad. I know it will ease off by lunchtime, but it hurts so much at the moment.

Probably not much help unless you have to go out but the best thing I found was to take Colpermin or peppermint oil capsules. Poor you I do sympathise.

For cramps I'm assuming ... My DH swears by Buscopan - muscle relaxing drug - not sure if it has the same name in the UK. He also has faith in Fennel Tea, which I introduced him to as in Germany that is what you give collicky babies for their tummy. HTH!

I forgot about the peppermint thing, thanks for reminding me. I'll get some peppermint capsules and fennel tea later. Hot water bottle is taking the edge off for now.

I used to take Colofac [Mebeverine Hydrochloride 135mg] when I suffered.

It is an anti spasmodic [intestines go into spasm with trigger foods for me] & this stops that.

It is normally 3 times a day, but I could take it when I knew that I was having a bad day/episode. I hardly take it now, somehow got less severe after birth of dd [4].

Hope you feel better soon, do you know your trigger foods? Drinking lots of water while getting the cramps helped me too.

Squirdle · 05/01/2008 10:45

It doesn't seem to be triggered by foods, it's generally more to do with stress (though I haven't been particularly stressed this week)

It's pretty much eased off now. Thats one good thing, it always goes around 4 hours after the first attack.

It would help if DH would try to understand just how painful it is. He doesn't seem to understand that these are real, almost as bad as labour pain (although maybe my memory has faded a bit after 3 yrs ) type cramps. He thinks I'm just being grumpy and not speaking to him. Actually I have been in such excruciating pain, it's been pretty tricky trying to hold an intelligent conversation...and now I don't feel like talking to him because he is being pig ignorant
