DD picks up new bug at nursery every week

I know it's normal when they start. She's 2 and started in January. Every week she gets a new one.

Some are fine, just little colds, others a bit more serious with fever etc. only one with fever this year actually.

Is it definitely normal ?

My MIL keeps stressing me out saying it's not right.

I've heard it can be like this for the first 6 months.

Definitely normal, unfortunately. Our little one is a year in and still regularly picking up colds, coughs, occasional sickness bugs.

It's not pleasant but the good thing is they're building up their immune system ahead of starting school

Definitely normal. DD started in August and she's constantly snotty still.

Normal here. My son started last September and is still bringing bugs home. His poor baby brother basically hasn't spent more than a week without a bug of some sort since birth.

We've been told chicken pox is going round now. Look into vaccination before it's too late.

DramaAlpaca · 12/03/2022 13:50

Normal, yes.

Yeah she has the first one, but I missed her booster. Not sure if it's too late now !

Totally normal, the only advice I give new parents is to put their dc in nursery for a day a week around 2 months before they return to work, because of the bugs they will pick up.

JenniferBarkley · 12/03/2022 14:08

Completely normal. We've two in full-time. We both work in a university and I don't know if we both worked a full week more than twice last semester.

WhatAWasteOfOranges · 12/03/2022 14:11

Yeh it’s normal, especially for the first child. Second one gets exposed to all the germs of the first so seem a bit hardier by the time they start nursery

Tee20x · 12/03/2022 14:11

Normal. DD started in December and for the first 2 months was always ill - permanent cold, some with a temp others not so bad. It's only over the past few weeks that she actually hasn't been ill.

Luckily never had to take a day off for her though.

What about when you have a newborn ? Does the newborn pick everything up from the toddler ? Sad

Completely normal esp for the first ... And yes they would pass bugs to babies ... however this would help baby in the long run

fedup078 · 12/03/2022 14:41

Totally
And then I end up getting them too
Everyone else is saying they haven't had a cold in 2 years where as I've had more in 2 years than what seems like my entire life

JenniferBarkley · 12/03/2022 14:47

Yeah our second definitely caught more from her big sister but it was ok. Probably helped by being a summer baby I guess.

My newborn is 6 weeks old and has caught two colds off my toddler already. She's had a snotty nose for 4/6 weeks.

Totally normal. I am on my third dc. This happens until like age 3...as they age it is less and less. My older two are 8 and 10 and they dont get fevers any more....just a runny nose or sore throat when ill and even that is rare like once a year. My youngest is two and when she catches a bug from the older two its fever for her and more poorly....and it is like twice a month for her....but she also has built her immune up early from having two siblings a dog and going to the gym creche for a while now.
