Why is it that if you/your children are feeling like sh*t and you take yourself/them to the Dr.s......

that you come home and start feeling better within hours? OK not completely so - but my appetite is back (a little), it doesn't hurt quite so much when I cough and I don't feel so shattered.

The same happens with my children - they'll be really under the weather, I'll take them - even if they're don't have an infection so don't get antibiotics - within hours of being there they'll be feeling better!?!?!

I have found this too . Very annoying.

It is maybe the feeling that someone else has you under their responsibility now. I get this, just having been seen by the Dr means you don't feel responsible any more if you/ your child drops dead on the way home.

I know what you mean.

The last 2 times I've taken DS (3) hes perked up as soon as we've got in the surgery before even seeing the doctor. He goes from being desperately ill, unable to move etc to suddenly getting excited because he remembers that the doctor has toys in his room

It is a recognised phenomenon, and it is because you have been comforted by seeing the doctor.

TheIceQueen · 04/01/2008 15:57

well not sure I was that comforted by seeing this particular doctor - he's stuffed up a few times when I've taken various DS's for emergency appointments and he's been the duty doctor LOL....but I suppose it was nice to know there was nothing serious/underlying problem and that I only have another week or so to put up with the symptoms

Name changed, getting ready for spring (and it is coming).
We had a hoot at the GP's on Xmas eve. Both dcs rotten ill and me ignoring the fact that I was pretty rough too.
Managed to get ds (cerebral palsy) upstairs to the surgery without cracking my back, dd hiding under desk so dr can't look in her ears, I started bawling as I always do.
Left with a fistful of scripts (even one for dh who wasn't with us) and the GP gave each dc a tenner for Xmas.
Went to get scripts, she had phoned the pharmacist to tell him to deal urgently. Pharmacy assistant watched all the dcs in the car while I went in to save getting them out of the car.
Got home with everything and everyone. Had strong coffee. Felt much better.
Blardy dcs wanted to go swimming in the afternoon.
I think it is the reassurance that you have done everything you can that makes you feel more settled.
