I had a nasty fall last night and have broken my arm badly.
It's being operated on in the next couple of days.
Tonight I feel extremely dizzy and sick and my fingers and shoulder hurt, the pain of the break is unbearable and the plaster feels so tight.
Dh keeps saying its bound to be like this based on what I've done.
Is this normal? Or should I be seen again

Go back.

I shattered my elbow last year and waited four days for surgery due to Covid-related delays. I was in agony and felt unwell. I phoned the hospital who said it was normal for the cast to be uncomfortable and to be in that level of pain.

It turned out that the cast was on too tight. On the day of surgery when they removed it the consultant was in doubt as to whether they'd be able to do the op that day because of the issues caused by the cast.

Please get your cast checked!

They probably need to loosen the plaster.

Yes get it checked op. Hope you are being seen too.

Thanks guys was back in hospital till 4.30am
They snipped my cast 3" or so to release some pressure and bandaged it.
I've also had a ct head scan as I have done nasty injuries facially but thankfully all fine.
Just hoping they can operate tomorrow as my arm is a mess! :(

I'm glad you went back in op. When I broke my ankle I was in hospital waiting to have the op (too swollen to do it for a few days) and I had a cast on from my knee to my toes and my heel started getting really sore. I had to keep lifting it up out of the cast, as far as I could, to relieve it. They cut the cast off and found I had a pressure sore on my heel.
As for the pain just after breaking it, mine hurt if I jolted my ankle, which seeemd to happen a lot the first night as a I kept reliving the fall that caused the break. It also hurt if I had my leg down for too long, ie going to the loo so not long at all. I was on diclofenac and paracetamol which I think kept the pain under control.
I hope things are feeling a bit better this morning

Do you have a contact for the fracture clinic / consultant who will be doing your op? If you’d been kept in they would be giving you morphine for the pain so no wonder pills are not touching it! Bless you! Ring and get advice;?compartment syndrome is always a concern of theirs with a break and they’ll happily check you out!
