i have been feeling dreadfully sick since 11 pm last night. i feel like i have a lead ball in the pit of my stomach. i was faint and shivery during the night, but despite heaving, miracusously did not vomit. i also have mild diarrhoea (sp).

i had macaroni cheese at a tea room yesterday. it was not heated properly- it had hotspots and parts of it were only lukewarm. the dds ate some but seem fine. i ate most of theirs too . i feel rank, but didnt think this would be a high risk food.

what dyou think?

Doubt you have food poisoning - sounds more like the bad sickness/diarrhoea bug that is going about??

Sounds more like the sick bug thats doing the rounds tbh.

Twiglett · 04/01/2008 11:54

I think you've got a D&V bug

fishie · 04/01/2008 11:55

i expect you have got that virus. i was ill overnight, had to spend following day in bed and was pretty much ok the following day.

noonar · 04/01/2008 11:57

thanks all. i ggogled the novovirus, but i dont think my symtoms are severe enough for that. could be a milder version ??? am worried now as the girls have gone to my mum's and i'm worried she'll ened up getting it. we have a family funeral next week, so i really hope this thing doesnt sweep through the entire family.

Real bacterial food poisoning take a few days to develop.

The first thing I would have said would be Staph or Bacillus toxin poisoning but both of these are vomiting only. For any bacteria to cause diarrhoea it needs a few days tog row in your gut.

Like others have said sounds more like this D&V bug that is going around, a self limiting virus thing makes you feel lousy but usually gone in 24 hours.

noonar · 04/01/2008 12:09

thanks sweetkitty, but i thought that food poisoning could be fairly instentaneous in rare cases. did i get that wrong?

Not wrong at all noonar...my AP had camphylobactor recently from not reheating shepherds pie properly at a friends house. It was immediate (!) about 1 hour after eating it and lasted 4 days! She was so ill but I think she's learnt her lesson now poor thing.

noonar · 04/01/2008 12:20

poor thing! but the meat was obviously the culprit, here.

Noonar, sounds like the D&V bug. We had it twice last year, everyone in the family had it to varying degrees.
Eldest DS was sick once, back door trots once. Middle manky sick and runs for 5 days, sporadically sick after for more than 2 weeks. Littlest manky was still BF and was sick twice and runs but not bad with it. DH was sick 6 times in the space of 7 hours, had the runs but after one day was better. I was sick at least once every hour day and night for 48 hours, and had the runs so bad i was passing clear water by the end (sorry if tmi). 2 of us had temps and the shakes and the others didnt. Took us btwn 2 days and 3 weeks to recover!

noonar · 04/01/2008 12:37

poor mankies! i'm not that bad, thankfully.

Thanks noonar, it was vile.....and only one toilet between us all!
Just waiting on us getting this one, Ds returns to school and dd to nursery on Monday, so it's too much to hope for that we will avoid it.
Hope you feel better soon!
