Unbearable acid reflux after stopping PPI- help!!!

I’ve been on a course of Omeprazole for a month to heal some gastritis caused by antibiotics- unfortunately after stopping the PPI I’ve got unbearable acid reflux and constant burning in my throat- wondering if anyone has any tips for reducing acid? I’m desperate to go back to normal :(

Maybe you need longer on omeprazole. IIRC I was told 4 weeks at higher dose followed by 4 weeks at a lower dose, longer if necessary. If I start reducing a lot, or the oesophagitis flares up, or if I have to take ibuprofen, I start back on the omeprazole again. I'm on and off it a couple of times a year, sometimes more, and it's become a way of life. I don't notice any side effects. It's better for me to take omeprazole than not to.

If I cut out wheat and drastically reduce sugar I reflux less and never need omeprazole (unless I have to take ibuprofen).

Definitely go back to your GP. As pp said, ypu probably need another course at a higher dose.

Gaviscon tablets and raised sleeping position should help at night.

I learnt the hard way that you can't just stop them. Apparently they cause those symptoms in healthy people on drug trials. What I did second time coming off lanzoprazole was reduce the dose slowly over 3 weeks, by opening the capsules and removing gradually increasing amounts of the little pellety things inside. Are omeprozole also capsules like that?
What I also did for a while was drink bone broth daily. Apparently the nutrients it contains are really good for healing acid problems. I also gave up wheat, and I find I can tolerate all other foods and the acid has gone.
Worth a Google. I read a book about it which was helpful. I'll see if I can dig it out and let you know what it's called.
Good luck, I know it's miserable

I can't find the book, sorry - it used to be on my kindle. My GP just kept increasing my dose, despite it making me feeling really unwell.

Yogurt by the gallon.

I've tried cutting out sugar and wheat and WOW what a difference! Thank you so much!

Wheat seems to have been it for me, feeling much better now (not completely fine, but good enough!)
