Spinal Stenosis

I’ve just been told I have this. As in, literally just been told this, with nothing explained other than a referral to the spinal clinic in 4 months.

I’ve managed to get a referral to a physio in a couple of weeks (telephone consultation) but I feel like I’ve been left floundering. Both in terms of information and managing the pain Sad

Are there other sufferers out there?

Yes, I think I have it. I have spine arthritis & this last week the pain in my back & down one leg is excruciating as soon as I stand or try to walk.
Saw a GP last week who more or less dismissed me with paracetamol & a nerve pill even though I had to walk with a stick which I’ve never done before. Told me to report back in three weeks. This weekend the pain has got much, much worse, can’t bear to stand on that leg at all. Don’t know what to do for the best, try for another appointment tomorrow though not holding out much hope. If I can’t get one I’m seriously cons just going to A&E. as I just can’t stand this for three weeks

I found out I had this in January. I'm still waiting to be seen by the Spinal Team. It was a relief to finally know know what was wrong after months of excruciating pain.

I have been taking Naproxen for the pain.
I started Physio at the end of January and it really has helped a lot, the pain only starts if I have had a long stressful day or overdone the housework or lifted anything heavy.

I know this thread is pretty old, but I was wondering if you’d kept up your physio and if it helps. I’ve had this for many years and do no exercises for it and it’s suddenly absolutely agony, hopefully only a flare up. I’ve tried physical therapy for it in the past and it made it worse so I’m scared to try. Was it a normal physiotherapist you saw.

i have suffered for years with this but i have found that a course of IDD therapy has really helped and and made to measure insoles as my walking was all over the place. i try not to take too much medication as it upsets my stomach and creates an other problem - if you can try the idd it has helped a lot with the stiffness in my back and mobility

I have it too but only since the vaccine. Did yours begin after that? I know a few now with spinal issues from it. So much pain

LINDAHOAD · 26/09/2024 08:36

i do not think the vaccine made any difference but i have had 2 hip replacements and i seemed to notice that it was worse after having them done - or perhaps as the pain from the hips was gone i have noticed the back pain more - difficult to say. however i have found the IDD therapy has improved it and exercises which i do - stretching etc. i am now investing in a tens machine to see if that helps. the pain is worse and the walking at the end of a busy day so i try and pace things out now.,
