Red rash in creases - can't get it to go?

Hello!
My 11mth old ds3 is quite chubby and he seems to get really red in his chubby creases especially under his chin, and in arms, legs and groin area. this has flared up more in the last 6 weeks or so. he also has eczema which has flared up more in the last 6-8 weeks and i'm wondering if having eczema has made his skin ultra sensitive so it gets more red? ds1 who was the same sort of size didn't get the irritation in the same way. i try to keep them clean put cream on etc but no improvement. any ideas how i can encourage it to clear up?

I'd take him to GP/HV just to check for thrush or some other of the millions of things babies seems to pick up.

Also try to make sure the creases are kept as dry as possible (an impossible task I know as I have a chubby one too ).

sounds like a fungal infection due to heat, bacteria love those conditions and often will cause a flare up, i get it myself sometimes in my cleavage quickly resolved though by some anti fungal cream

meant to say - why dont u try some talc in his creases?

gigglewitch · 03/01/2008 22:04

have you tried bathing him in junior oilatum or aqueous cream? in case it is something like his bath stuff causing it? it sounds like eczema gone mad to me and as the others say it might be infected and need cream on prescription.

i am possibly quite insane to make this suggestion, but DS1's eczema cleared up completely when we put him on goats milk (he turned out to be intolerant to cows milk and the eczema was actually a symptom) DC can have pasteurised goats milk -you can buy in supermarkets, my DC have been given it between 10mo and 12mo. just an idea

hi, thanks for all those. will try talc again. tried it under his chin but maybe didn't persevere for long enough. didn't think of fungal infection. got appointmt at docs on monday so will ask. re your thought on goats milk gigglewitch, i've been toying with the idea of putting him on goats milk for the last couple of days. he's off dairy at the moment though and no better so not sure it's that but still it might be better than soya milk. wonder if i can put him on goats milk as a drink too as want to give up BF?

it worked for us - with all three DC. Give it a go?

PS you can use goats milk exactly as you would cows milk in cooking and so on, i make pancakes and all kinds of sauces - oh and custard with it!! you just have to watch the packaging for 'whey protein' and similar that they stick in all kinds of foods. I think Goats milk is much safer health-wise than soya, use the pasteurised (not semi-skimmed for a lo) and there is enough calcium, fat and stuff in it to keep your little persons diet balanced. We also get hard goats cheese, made by Delamere dairy - they do tons of 'goat stuff', even yogurt. As said earlier, my three DC have been on it from around the same age as yours so no probs imo!

good luck.

After washing/bathing/nappy changes, pat dry with a towel and then dry his folds and creases thoroughly with a hairdryer on cool setting. (Top tip from my GP) Then use metanium on groin area and oilatum emollient cream on other areas. (both on prescription from doctor/ HV)
