Help - DD crying so much and I don't know what to do

DD, two, just keeps screaming in pain and I don't know how to help.

She had a very slight fever yesterday all day on and off and then since today she started spitting out her dummy, as if her mouth hurts.

She's been OK in herself, but not willing to eat/ drink much. Then tonight it got so much worse. She just won't stop crying, it's her tongue. It has ulcers on it that are very sore.

She's dosed up on ibobrofen and paracetamol. But she didn't go go sleep until 10 pm, as she was crying and has since woken up hysterically crying and completely inconsolable a couple of times. She cries and wiggles around for a good 10 minutes before falling sleep again. Then she sleeps for a bit, wakes up and cries so much again.

I have never seen her like this. I think it's her tongue that hurts and also her throat when she swallows.

What else can I do ? Other than give pain medicine?

So that's more than 12 hours without a wee and now she's on antibiotics too (which can give your kidneys a pounding)? I would ring 111 for advice now and have a v low threshold for taking her to A&E if she doesn't wee soon.

She's had one now.. I think the doctor may have been wrong and it is HFM.. maybe it's both HFM and tonsillitis. But she's got a few spots on her hand now.. she's had spots around her mouth, which I showed the doctor, who said it's nothing. She also has a few spots on her thigh. Which I also showed the doctor and she again said it was nothing. The spots on her hand have only just appeared.. I'll keep an eye on it !

Could it be chicken pox?

Another vote for HFM. I also caught it badly from DC. It was incredibly painful so I'm not surprised she's feeling sorry for herself.

Just keep up with the pain meds and ice lollies etc. have you got any bonjela or teething gel? Might help temporarily,

Good luck OP it's hideous

As PPs have said, it sounds like herpetic gingivostomatitis. I had this once and it didn't go with antibiotics from the GP, instead it was the dentist who prescribed something that finally sorted it.

I couldn't eat/speak/swallow without pain - your poor little girl. Hope she's much better soon.

I’m not sure- just when my little one had it, he had spots all round his mouth. The spots on his body developed into chicken pox quite quickly though. Hope your little girl feels better soon.
