Thyroid - TSH is high, now what?

I have my TSH levels monitored annually because I’m at higher risk of developing Hashimoto’s. I had a blood test last week for something unrelated (cholesterol) and for some reason they checked my TSH as well. It came back out of range after years of hovering at the top of the range.
What should happen now? I suspect I will get fobbed off again with a ‘wait and see’ message but is there some guidelines or process that they should follow when you get a high TSH?

just seen your post I have just had my thyroid results back My TSH is 7.54 I'm so confused at results and cannot get a telephone conversation with my doctor until 11th October , my cholesterol has also come back high at 6.1, can I ask how you got on .

cks.nice.org.uk/topics/hypothyroidism/

There's the document you need.

Cholesterol should come down on its own as TSH comes down and thyroid hormone levels go up on treatment.

Good luck both of you. If you get stuck, the good people at ThyroidUK will be happy to help.

In theory, you should be started on thyroxine. However the UK is behind on hypothyroidism, and certainly I wasn't put on it until my T4 was low.
