I’m getting a bit worried. Went to dr with facial
Pain and headache in temple. Said it was bells
Palsy, given high dose steroids which dr said would clear it right up. It gave pain relief for a time but now my pain has got worse and is getting worse. Going to drs tomorrow and they’re talking about putting me on amitriptyline or carbamazepine. But should
I be insisting on getting further tests? The pain in temple is constant and am barely keeping it at bay now with paracetamol and ibuprofen. When it’s really bad it causes shooting pains across my face which particularly affects the top of my cheek and teeth, tongue and lips get tingly. I’m trying to think what I’ve done. I think I remember banging my cheek before Christmas on the car door but that was about 4 weeks before this started. Had this now for about 6 weeks. Dentist has said my teeth Are fine. Really worried I’ll be in pain forever. I have a lot going on with my mum dying mid December and my dad with terminal cancer. I’m due to start a new job but now wondering if I’ll be fit enough. This cannot be just stress? Anyone had face pain with no root cause?

Could it be trigeminal neuralgia? May be helpful to apply a hot water bottle to the pain for short term relief. No medical qualifications to speak of but the pains across your face sound similar to symptoms.

I too was thinking trigeminal neuraliga which can product a shooting pain like you describe. I would ask the Dr tomorrow why they think Bells Palsy and not TN? Bells generally presents like a droop to one side of the face that can look like a stroke and can be helped with steroids.

I wonder if the GP got the 2 diagnoses/terms confused, because Carbamazepine is usually a 1st line course for trigeminal neuraliga- not bells. Some people with TN get relief with acupuncture BTW. Best of luck.

I have one sided facial pain
Botox injections help
I've been diagnosed with tmj dysfunction
But it radiates to most of the right side of my face and head
