when antibiotics no longer work for your child

Apparently 1/4 of GP consultations are for children and 2/3rds of these are for sore throats, earache, coughs etc. 30% get antibiotics. A study from Oxford Uni found if your child takes 2+ courses of antibiotics within 12 months they are 30% more likely to not respond to treatment for a later infection- some ended up in hospital- and these were children without underlying health problems. (bjgp.org/content/69/686/e638). The fact that drugs we take for granted (antibiotics) might no longer work worries me as a mum of two small children. A friend of mine has a child in hospital with a serious lung infection that can't be treated despite best efforts. Does anyone else worry about these things or have experience of similar?
