Hi. Just wondering if anyone has used the Lloyds migraine tens machine and if it was any good?

Thanks

Watching with interest too

Watching too. Given what the GP said a few weeks back about an MRI I was fully expecting my neurologist appointment today to be a confirmation of MS. Neurologist not convinced, leaning towards migraine.

Now my head feels like it's going to crack open. Last year I got given a triptan by the GP, took it at the right time, and had the worst headache ever. Painkillers, even marketed migraine ones, barely touch it. I'm looking for anything and everything if it'll sort me out (feeling 'not all there', hard to get words out, interspersed with cracking headaches since last May)

Similar symptoms as me, DH can always tell as I look odd and can't get the right words. Occasionally my triptan will work but often won't, codeine sometimes help sometimes makes things worse.

I am more and more convinced mine are physical in origin from my hunchback/dodgy neck and impinged nerves, so would stand that TENS would work. Just think DH might have a fit if I buy yet another gadget

I’m the same migraines from hell. Bad for 2 or 3 days ok for a few days then the cycle starts again. Migraine aura, fluey feeling, vision problems etc tried load of different medications. One made me put on 2 stone and after a while didn’t work. Looking for other ways to stop them. I’ve been reading online that inflammation in the body can cause them so am going to try and anti inflammatory diet. It’s basically the Mediterranean diet, lots of fruit, veg, pasta, rice, potatoes, nuts , olive oil, fish and no red meats. Avoid caffiene too

Looks like its a generic and cheaper version of Cephaly. NICE website on such devices and efficacy is here. www.nice.org.uk/guidance/ipg559

Gammacore [Vagus Nerve Stimulator] is now available on prescription for cluster headaches and may be considered for some severe forms of migraine. I think you might need a hospital headache clinic to okay its use and set the device for you though.

In all honesty if your having more than one migraine per month push for the GP to look at what drugs you could try. Be aware its often a trail and error to find what works. If its more than one migraine per week or nothing the Gp suggests has helped ask for a referral to a specilist headache clinic.

Thanks for that information from NICE. I'll speak to my consultant as I've tried Botox and it's been unsuccessful so I hope I might be able to try this.

I’ve bought one today after seeing this thread. Migraine specialist recommended Cephaly but I couldn’t justify the cost of it was yet another gadget that didn’t work.. apparently can take a few weeks to work. Fingers crossed.

fizzyfood · 06/03/2022 14:14

Let us know how you get on with it please. Good luck.

Just an update really, as I’ve been using it for a few months…

Prevention - in all honesty I think it worked a little bit I struggled to remember to use it for 20 mins a day every day. I think when I do it regularly there’s a preventative effect.

pain relief - definitely helps temporarily so I tend to put it on while I wait for the triptans to kick in.

Pros - fairly easy to use.

Cons- the sticky pads are the real cost as you need to replace them a fair amount.

If I had to rate it… 7/10?

Omg yes! It does work! It's been an absolute life saver for me. I get regular headaches, I'm talking daily.
I suffer with migranes and really bad headaches and this little miracle works on headaches and migraines.
Better if you can get it on offer, but if not, I would pay full price twice over.
It doesn't stop the after effects of a migrane, if you use it when it's started, but if you use it as soon as you feel one coming on, it does.
There's 3 different programs on the device. It starts off gentle, then gets intense. When it's at that point, it does feel like someone's ripping your hair out, but it doesn't last long. I always feel sleepy after using it, I usually fall asleep whilst it's still on, but when I wake up, no more migrane!
