It just sort of crept up on me! With the odd fag here and there on xmas night out.

Now I'm smoking again, not loads about 5 a day, but still

Its not even as if I'm enjoying it, or stressed. I think I'm doing it out of boredom. I have been off work now for 3 weeks and its driving me crazy. Actually cant wait to get back on Monday.

Any advice would be great

You will smell horrid, your skin will age quicker and become wrinkly and tired looking, it costs a fortune, your kids will hate it .....am I helping?

mosschops30 · 03/01/2008 15:38

I know all that though, its why I gave up in the first place. I just want to get out of this rut I have got back into.
I still know how disgusting it is, hate the way i smell, hate my mouth in the mornings, hate the fact that my chest is tight etc etc.

I need to stop this NOW

just picture yourself in the consultants room being told you have 6 months to live becuase of your smoking.

expatinscotland · 03/01/2008 18:59

NEVER give up, giving up, moss!

Dust yourself off, moss and get back on the horse.

rosalinda · 03/01/2008 19:00

its out of fashion

CoteDAzur · 03/01/2008 19:07

I am into my fourth day as a non-smoker (quit on 31/12). Throw your pack away now, brush your teeth, and join us on this thread.

don't think of it as missing out on something pleasurable - having a fag to quell cravings is not unlike banging your head against a wall cos it feels so good when you stop. Just don't bang your head on the wall in the first place!

You have absolutely nothing to lose + so much to gain. I say this as someone who smoked for more than half her life but who quit nearly 2 years ago, no regrets but that I didn't do it sooner.

mosschops30 · 04/01/2008 11:34

I know youre all right

I think I will set a date for monday when I am back in college so breaks the routine of hanging round the house. Plus none of my friends smoke so no temptation there either.

Does that sound like a good plan?

i had stopped and was doing really well
but with all the drinking over xmas i ended up back on them again

havent made the decision yet to go back off them again

SantaBabyBeenAnAwfulGoodGirl · 04/01/2008 11:37

i gave up two years ago and have still in the just past christmas period been to two parties when i smoked

the thing to do is to regive up immediately after the lapse

so dont waity now there is no reason to just chuck them and stop again

SantaBabyBeenAnAwfulGoodGirl · 04/01/2008 11:40

actually i gave up for 15 years before and still started again at first occasionally and then a lot secretly

then gave upcompletelhy

and then ended up with a smoking partner and started again for seversal years

u have to do like ex[at says

Blandmum · 04/01/2008 11:44
  1. Stop beating yourself up
  2. Stop smoking
  3. Don't stop imagining what it is like to have to tell your children that you are going to die from a disease that you could have avoided.
  4. Don't stop imagining how horrible Chemotherapy is, and how awful it is not to have the energy to play with your children.

We've gone through all of this, but with the saving grace of knowing that dh's cancer was just plain bad luck.

I can't even begin to think what it would be like if it had been self inflicted.

hertsnessex · 04/01/2008 17:10

well put martianbishop. your words will certianly make me think twice. im now on day 4 and feeling alot better than yesterday, hoping that i have done it - cravings no longer there and i dont even want one.

ivykaty44 · 04/01/2008 17:14

Picture your dc's step mother helping them get dressed on the morning they get married - because you died and aren't there to help yourself?

CoteDAzur · 04/01/2008 17:19

Good grief, ivy, how did you come up with that one

You are right, though. It is a powerful image. Glad I quit Four Long Days Ago.

ivykaty44 · 04/01/2008 17:23

Tis a bit harsh - but enough to make me stay stopped. My mum never smoked, but died 7 weeks before I had my dd2 and I never got to telphone her when my dd2 was born. I just thought how bad it would be to miss all those things. Obviously my mum knew my baby was on its way and all she could ever give her was her name

hertsnessex · 04/01/2008 17:26

blimey ivy - well put, and makes you think. sorry to hear about your mum.

i will be there on my sons wedding day (heopfully not as the MIL from hell either!)

Good luck everyone - keep on quiting!

CoteDAzur · 04/01/2008 17:29

hellobellosback · 04/01/2008 20:21

It gets easier to stop. Don't put yourself under too much pressure though or you'll feel like a failure and you won't stop. If you don't think you can stop right now, don't, and plan it for later. Have you tried the NHS stop smoking clinics? I found them fantastic, and haven't bought any fags for more than 4 years, although I have smoked every now and again. Now I'm back on no NRT and no fags!

Good luck. Really, you will find it easier!
