I’m approaching 23 stone
I’m sugar addicted feel absolutely awful, fatigued, depressed, aches constant panic attacks. I’m finding conventional diets aren’t working. I’m wondering if a diet of vegetables, fruit, chicken and rice with water would heal my body and repair some of the damage! I feel like I’m afflicted to junk food

Not an expert but I think it would be a good start. Eventually I think you should replace most of the fruit with vegetables, so that so break the craving for sweet things, but it's a big change so it's a good idea to break yourself in gently. Eventually I'd get rid of the rice too because it's empty carbs.
I think that what would probably be good is protein, good fats (which are filling and don't cause weight gain so long as they are not eaten in combination with sugar) vegetables and some fruit (berries are good with full fat plain yoghurt) and lots of water.

I'm no expert but white rice won't help if you have sugar issues. Go for wholegrain or quinoa. Or bulgur wheat.

Justgivemewine · 27/02/2022 00:36

Have a look at low carb diets/low GI diets

There no need to go full on Atkins diet style but replacing white rice with brown rice, white pasta/bread with wholemeal etc.

Dh was/is obese and the most effective thing we ever did was the low GI diet.

OP get over to the Low Carb threads! I lost 4st last year, ate delicious food, never felt hungry and my mental health improved no end! It's worth a try! That is such a restrictive diet you're talking about and will get extremely boring very quickly! Good luck!

Read the book 'Why we eat (too much)' by Andrew Jenkinson. You are in exactly the kind of eating trap he writes about.

what about hypnotherapy, from a respectable practitioner. might help.

Have you looked into the Fast 800 diet?

ClariceQuiff · 27/02/2022 10:43

@Shockedmama In a nutshell, the 'solution' is to cut out processed and refined food and reduce omega 6 in your diet. This helps reset your 'weight point' so you stop craving unhealthy food. There is a long-running thread in weightloss chat which goes into more detail.

Another vote for the low carb boot camp threads. Please don't be put off by the bootcamp name, it's a really friendly space with lots of really very knowledgable people.

I would count myself a serious sugar addict. Following the low carb, high fat way way of life is really working for me, I feel so much better and more energised.

No need to feel that desperate got to eat hunger: turns out that is just caused by eating carbs, especially processed carbs, in the first place.

It's much more the way people used to eat, when it was unusually for so many people to be so overweight. Before food manufacturers worked out that processed food was very cheap to make and highly addictive, a win:win for them and nothing good for us.

Slowly the pounds are melting away.

If you need some motivation to cut sugars have a look at this video with Professor Robert Lustig on the University of California TV channel. It's quite an eye opener - and he's an entertaining speaker.
