Any idea what’s causing this???

I’ve taken photos of my partner (attached). He is this awful rash, parts of it are itchy, it’s all over his chest, armpits, stomach. We are using chemical free washing detergent, he has cut out milk and all grains from his diet as we are doing elimination for food sensitivities. It turns out he now can’t tolerate any wheat/gluten at all now.
He is quite stressed with work.
The dr gave him anti allergy pills, we don’t know where to go to get him looked at and fine the cause.

Do any of you have any idea what could the problem could be?

Thank you

Poor man. No idea unfortunately. Calamine lotion might help with the itchiness, especially at night.

Nouveaunew · 26/02/2022 22:36

He should see his GP

Antares444 · 27/02/2022 17:36

My husband had this two years ago! His GP sent him to the Dermatologic cljnic immediately but in the end It was a benign skin disease with a weird name I can’t remember. The disease can last a couple of weeks to a month and then it vanishes. He got a cortisone cream to apply only in case of pain or itching.

This perhaps?

My dh had something similar and he used an anti fungal shampoo (Nizoral if I remember correctly) which got it under control. I can't remember what it was called, but it was a fungal infection.

swapsicles · 27/02/2022 19:02

Looks like piticaris rosacea, I had it a few years ago, lasted a few weeks and itchy as hell!
I did end up taking steroids for it and anti histamines, the older ones that can make you drowsy may help at night.
It often starts as a large patch on the back that's usually how it's diagnosed.

SilverHairedCat · 27/02/2022 19:19

Same as above - one of the pityriasis (tinea or versicolor). Very common, overgrowth of natural fungus on the skin. Is it worse after a hot shower?

Buy a bottle of Nizoral, use it like a body wash, leave the suds on the skin for 5-10mins before washing it off. Wash daily for a week.

DH is in the military, it is very common when they go out to work in hot places. Nothing to do with cleanliness!

Any idea what’s causing this???

Looks like ringworm which is a fungus. I sometimes get it around my neck and chest. Put some antifungal cream and it will clear up in a day or two.
Angrymum22 · 28/02/2022 10:06

Guttate psoriasis. Often stress related. Mainly appears on trunk. Usually goes on it’s own.

yikesanotherbooboo · 28/02/2022 11:53

Most likely pityriasis vesicolor which is a fungal infection that should respond to nizoral.
Guttate psoriasis looks similar but treatment less straightforward .

Rebecca75 · 28/02/2022 13:58

Thanks for all your responses. I’ll look up the names you’ve all come up with and do some reading and I’ll definitely get some of that shampoo for him to try.

I forgot to say in my op that he has had this for the last 12 months - sometimes really angry and itchy and other times less so.

There are so many rashes that look like this which makes it so hard to identify. I think after suffering with it for so long he needs to insist the GP refers him to a dermatologist.

If seeing a dermatologist privately is an option, I’d do that. You’ll get an appointment within a week usually.

yikesanotherbooboo · 01/03/2022 11:12

No need for private appointments; your GP will be able to sort this out quickly.

Penguinwaddler · 01/03/2022 14:00

I've had this a few times now - it usually appears on the "trunk" of the body and the neck at the front. It's so odd but the doctor said it was pityriasis rosea as pp's have suggested.
I think it can be brought on due to stress, and some people are more susceptible to it than others. I don't think I had any cream or treatment, and it went away eventually.

Absolutely worth popping to the pharmacist or doctor though to get a clear diagnosis.

notapizzaeater · 01/03/2022 14:18

My DH had something like this - he was prescribed Selsun dandruff and seborrhoea dermatitis cream which cleared it up.

Rebecca75 · 01/03/2022 14:33

I think he needs to get back to the surgery and see a different gp - hopefully a different person can confirm.
He is going through a really stressful time at work so maybe that’s the reason.
Thanks all

Well the GP hasn’t sorted it. GPs are not good for long term skin issues.

Hope he gets it sorted OP.

Yes! That was the name
Fernandina · 01/03/2022 17:38

My BIL had something similar that used to flare up quite a lot. Turned out he was allergic to shellfish.

Has your DP been to see a pharmacist? Sometimes they are more helpful that GP's about skin stuff.

he's only been to the gp who was utterly useless, hence posting on here.

im coming to the conclusion that everyone is more helpful than the gp!!!!
