Sense of smell

I have had a very limited sense of smell for a long time - at least ten years.

However, recently, I have noticed that some smells, once they get through, won't go away. For example, at work the other day kids had been cooking fish pie. It was really strong but I could still smell it (or thought I could) when I got home.

Today I had to put bedding in the wash - cat had been sick on it, DH had cleaned all of the sick off but I still caught a whiff of it and now, six hours later, it is still lingering. I literally had hold of it for a minute, if that, and the washing machine is out in the shed, so no way could it get through to living room.

Have I just got an overactive olfactory imagination? Or is it something more serious?

I have the same problem as you when there is a really bad smell. I blamed Covid (I had it 2 years ago when it was still the alpha variant that affected smell). But it might be something more common than I thought. I’m not worried about it at all.

I'm exactly the same! I had a few bad sinus infections years ago and I've always put it down to that. My sense of smell is dreadful but things I can smell linger for ages.

Smells do linger - particularly in carpets and soft furnishings. Some more than others.
