DS (22) has been losing hearing in one ear for some time. It's hard to pinpoint how long as he's kind of adapted to it, but has now seen a consultant due to some loss in his 'good' ear.
Hearing tests have revealed he has moderate loss in his good ear and severe loss in the other. He's having an MRI scan and a hearing aid made for the worst affected ear.
Does anyone know what might have caused this? There's no family history, no damage to the ear as far as he knows, no environmental or occupational exposure risks. I've googled and wondered about otosclerosis. I know the MRI will help with diagnosis but am concerned that this may be irreversible as it's so severe and he's so young.
